A Personal Request…

September 30, 2010

I have been thinking about this for a long time, and for some reason have been feeling a huge sense of urgency about it.  Many of you have already had a chance to read Our Adoption Story.

In reading it, you have recognized that at the time we felt that our family was not complete after our youngest daughter was born, and we could no longer have another child on our own. That amazing journey led to the adoption of our beautiful son. We love him so much and he is such an integral part of our family!

Our Little Guy

Well, that little longing feeling has again begun to creep into our hearts and thoughts! We have debated whether or not our family is “complete” because, let’s be honest… five children is already a BIG family! But, we also feel strongly that there is room in our family and that our little guy needs a sibling that looks like him. We don’t want him to ever feel alienated, on an island, so to speak, because he looks so different than the rest of us.

Before signing with an agency, it is common for adoptive couples to reach out to friends/acquaintances and let them know of their desire to adopt, should anyone know of a situation where a birthmother (for her own reasons) would be placing a baby or child. We never did this the first time, because we were very private and unsure of all the unknowns going “out of system”. We did not want anyone to know until we knew for sure it would happen.  This time around, with a different perspective, we thought we would give it a try.

We now have our homestudy completed, and after much thought, we have decided to post about our desire on my website. It’s a deeply personal desire, but we have received such warm feedback from all of you on our 1st adoption experience that we thought we would reach out to all of you. Since I consider each of you friends,  who have come to know my family over the past few years, I would ask that if you know of a potential adoptive situation… could you let me know?

Although my blog passion is for hair and little girl fashion, with a dabbling of adoption spread throughout… my true passion is as a mother. We have a happy, happy home full of little children giggles and family time! It is evermore apparent that we truly feel like our family is not yet whole or complete.

We are hoping for a child under one year of age, preferably newborn, but would be open to all situations. We would obviously prefer an AA or a biracial mix for reasons mentioned above, but any ethnicity is welcome. Gender doesn’t matter… as we are sort of hoping for a surprise with that!

No matter the many situations we are presented with, rest assured that I will post about them here.  I know there are many of you who either are in the adoptive system now, or know of someone who is waiting also.  I want this site to contiue matching beautiful babies to wonderful adoptive homes, as we have done over the past two years.

Somewhere out there is a mother who is about to make the toughest decision of her life, one that she feels will be of the best interests and benefit for her and the child. For our case, if that choice is adoption – we sincerely hope she would consider our family.

Thanks for allowing me to share these very personal feelings.  I love you all!

Happy Hairdoing!

Do you have any email address? I would like to share with you how we found our little guy. Who knows, maybe it is the direction you should take.

    Mindy.

I just emailed you about getting your email address so I can tell you about our adoption experience and finding our son. I forgot that you live in Utah. We used a matching agency and I was told that it is not legal in Utah. If you still want to hear about our experience I would gladly tell you, but it may not be possible for you to use the matching agency we used and loved.

This is wonderful to hear, Mindy! :) I do not live anywhere near you, but I hope something great comes along. I wish we could afford to adopt NOW, but it will be many years before we are able to. It’s in our plans though, I know that for sure! :)

    Mindy,

What an awesome way to show God’s love with your children! You are very blessed, and I know God is smiling at your family for making this fabulous decisions.

Once our third baby is born (I’m due in February), we will be starting the adoption process ourselves. Have you ever thought about international adoption? We will be adopting from Taiwan. We do have very close friends we are in the process of adopting from Ethiopia. It is a great was to take a child who’s parents are too poor and didn’t have the resources to raise on their own. It has always been a passion of mine to adopt internationally.

I have recently begun following you but I want to let you know I will be praying for you! My best friend/sister of my heart is the mother of 4 biological children and 1 adopted and now awaiting the call from the courts to go to Ethiopia AGAIN to adopt a 4 year-old girl! This is a prayer situation close to my heart! Best of luck/fate where this is concerned…I live in Indiana and am a labor and delivery nurse…I will keep my eyes and ears and heart open for you. Can I email you if something arises?

Don’t forget all of the children in the foster care system right now that need a family. Our son came to us through the state system. There are so many children needing a home right here in the US. Adopting through the state is also free. So many people think that adoption has to be expensive, but that is a misconception.

Good luck on your journey. It is miraculous process!

First, your family is beautiful! I have loved checking back to get more cute, fun and EASY ideas to do on my DD! I only got one girl with 3 brothers so I have to keep up on her;) The boys won’t let me do pretty things to them! Second, I wish you luck in your upcoming journey and will keep you all in my thoughts and will keep an ear open for any information on the matter! Good Luck!

I’m only 12 and live in Illinios but my cousin adopted a brother and sister from Ethiopia and have had them for a year now. My nieghboor also works for an adoption agency for adopting kid somewhere around or maybe even in Ethiopia. My Mom sometimes even considers adopting a child then we got a dog a year and a half ago and I don’t think that we will, but for all I know it could happen. One more thing. My Best Friend has 5 brothers so I think that if you do really want to adopt a child you should.

I just had my first born baby girl this past May and She is a handfull! I am so blessed to have Her in My life, even tough I dont know if I could have anymore children because Im not very patient I am certain some people have the parental gift to have many children and Thats preety awesome.

I dont know anything about adoption agencies, the only time I was reasearching about the agencys was when I was pregnant and Didnt know if I could keep Her or Not but at the end I decided I had to be with Her; I know there are many surrogate mothers agencies that Make it happen for familys that cant have children maybe that would be a great option for You guys.

You can also look in adoption agencies in TJ Mexico (Its my hometown) or other citys like this where I know There are many children that Need a warm home and great parents like You guys.

I feel You are blessed and I feel the good energy.

    Warmly

I wish you the best! I’m a birthmom and I know that my daughter (now 21) is beautiful and loved beyond belief by her adoptive parents. It takes a special person to be a truly good parent – on both sides of adoption – so my prayers are with you and the birthmother out there making the best, yet hardest, decision for her child. Bless you all!

I adopted 2 sons, then at age 40 God decided that I needed two more. I had healthy pregnancies at age 40 and again at 42. My personal opinion is that God gives you the children you are meant to have. So if you feel that your family isn’t done yet, I say “go for it” whether that means adoption or a pregnancy. God will speak to you and you’ll know. (Just be sure hubby is praying too!)
