Bundled Braids {Video} | Braided Hairstyles

Many of you will recognize this hairstyle as one of the first hairdo’s we ever published, but we never have filmed a video for it.

Since we do receive quite a few requests via email asking for this video, as sometimes photo tutorials are not specific enough, we decided to film this one for you all!

We love how super easy this hairstyle is to do, and how cute it looks on our little girls. The style still works well on older girls, and moms as well, particularly if you pancake the braids into a more “loose” style.

We promise that you will get compliments on this hairstyle all day long! {My twins started calling this braided hairstyle “The Pineapple Braid” from the time they were very little, which I also think is cute because the finished hairstyle does look quite a bit like a pineapple!}

Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 5 clear elastics, 2 regular
hair bands, and hairspray {if desired}.

Time Requirement: 8-10 minutes

Begin by wetting hair {if desired} with the spray bottle.
Gather all hair into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck…
Divide the hair in the ponytail into 5 equal sections…
Braid each of the 5 sections separately, using a clear elastic to temporarily hold them {or you can also have your daughter hold them instead}…
Once all 5 sections are braided, grab them together at the base and fold them up towards the ponytail…
Secure the folded braids to the ponytail with a hair band, leaving the ends of the braid loose…
Tease the loose hair ends to your liking.
Add in hairspray or a ribbon/accessory {if desired}.

Lace Braid Heart | Valentine’s Day Hairstyles

One of my favorite hairstyles for Valentine’s Day has to be the Lace-Braid Heart…

I’ve had this requested via emails and comments from fans, and we are seeing versions of the style on Pinterest, and even in a book called Cozy’s Guide to Girls’ Hair. You can style this on your daughter, your neice, or even yourself (YES, you can do it)! I have done it on myself and it still looks great! As long as you have at least shoulder-length hair, you are good-to-go!

{We posted a Lace Braid hairstyle tutorial previously, that you may want to view first since this tutorial really doesn’t demonstrate how to do the braid, but rather the hairstyle using the braids.}

This one is sure to impress anyone and everyone that sees it, especially during Valentine’s Day season. I’ve had teachers, neighbors, and even strangers stop my girls to take photos of this hairdo! For a more mature version, try making the braid look messier by using the Pancake Braid technique we showed you last week.

Steps:

I started with dry, straightened hair. To begin the hairstyle, create a DEEP part down the center of the head… about six inches long. The part should go from the middle forehead all the way down to the base back of the head.
Secure one side of hair out of the way with a rubber band.
On the other section, about 4 inches back from hairline, begin the lace braid using three-sections of hair. {This means you will only pick up hair from ONE side of the braid}. Begin the braid by braiding toward the face. After you have created about three braid weaves, “turn” the braid by now braiding toward the ear to create the heart arc.
Continue to create the shape of a heart as you lace braid down to the ear. At this point, stop gathering hair into the braid and continue with a regular braid until you reach the middle of the head. Secure with a rubber band.
Remove the ponytail holder off the hair on the other side of the part ,and repeat the lace braid process.
Remove the rubber band on the first half of the braid and join the two ends of the braids together in the back with a ponytail holder to form the bottom point of the heart.
Add a red or pink ribbon for a little added flair.

Flipped Ends | Layered Hairstyles

Although the focus of our tutorials is on doing cute hairstyles on my girls, you can still do all the styles on yourself as well. More and more, we receive questions on how I do my own hair in the videos we film. My goal is to include more of these self hairstyles from time to time.

This straight hairstyle is easy to do. With naturally straight or straightened hair, you can alter the way it looks a bit by using a flat iron to flip the hair ends “in” or “out”. This is the most common style technique on straight hair.

When we were being filmed for YouTube’s 20/20 special, our stylist actually recommended that I flip the ends the same direction… which was something I had never thought about, but loved it! . It turned out super cute, and I receive compliments whenever I do this!

You can do this technique on short to medium hair, but with longer hair you will not benefit from the flips as much. You can also choose to back-comb some of the hair on the top to help add a little volume. I show you how to do this in the video.

{I also apologize for the clapping of the flat iron, as it is an iron that I have had for a long time. As with all hairstyles that use heat, please be sure to use a good heat protectant first.}
