Primrose Everdeen Braids | Hunger Games Hairstyles

Monday, March 19th, 2012

We here at CGH are totally excited that the first movie in The Hunger Games series comes out this weekend!  In fact, it is about all that my twins are talking about!  They are dying to see the movie!

Primrose Everdeen Braids | Hunger Games Hairstyles

We recently posted our Katniss Everdeen Braid, which is gaining lots of traction on YouTube, and yesterday we  filmed two additional Hunger Games Hairstyles!

This one is the braided hairstyle wore by Katniss’ younger sister in the District 12 scene, which uses the French braiding technique.  {We scoured the internet for shots of her wearing the style and can confirm that they are French braids, and not Dutch braids.}

Primrose Everdeen Braids | Hunger Games Hairstyles

These differ than your standard Double French Braids as they run much closer to the hairline and actually “cup and hug” the ears so that the braids naturally want to hang over the shoulders.

We show you exactly how to get that unique braided look in the hairstyle tutorial below…

Items Needed:  Brush, rat-tail comb,  spray bottle, 2 clear elastic bands, hairspray {if desired}

Time Requirement: 5 minutes

Our hope is that all of you who are going to see the movie this weekend will want to wear one of these hairstyles to the theater! Be sure to share this link with your friends so that they will do the same!  Let’s see how many Hunger Games hairstyles we can get to the theaters!

The Hunger Games promises to be a successful movie franchise, so there will be many more fun hairstyles to come!  {It will be nice to actually see the movie, since so much has been left to secret photos and guesswork!}

Waterfall Twist | Beautiful Teen Hairstyles

Sunday, March 11th, 2012

We have received a lot of attention for our Waterfall Braid hairstyle tutorials, with over 18 million YouTube views between our first two videos alone!

What I hear from some girls, is that they are not very good at French braiding and as such they can never get the braids to look right. We want everyone to be able to get that awesome cascading waterfall look, so…

Waterfall Twist | A cheat to the Waterfall Braid

About six months ago, Kori, a good friend of mine from Princess Hairstyles, posted a simple “cheat” for the Waterfall Braid that used a twist on the side, rather than a braid. The end result looks so much like a waterfall braid that not many people would know the difference!

Waterfall Twist Hairstyle {Front View}

For this tutorial, we carried the twist all the way around the head and we think it turned out super cute!

Items Needed: Brush or rat-tail comb, 1 bobby pin, hairspray {if desired}.

Time Requirement: 5 minutes

Steps:

  1. Begin on front, right side of the head and section out 1 large strand of hair that can serve as your base for the twist around the head…
  2. Divide this strand into 2 equal pieces, and begin by twisting them around each other one time.
  3. Now, take a new selected strand of hair and place it between your twisting strands, so that it literally falls through like in the Waterfall Braid.
  4. Twist the 2 original strands once more.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 all the way around the back of the head and towards the top of the left ear.
  6. For the last added-in section of hair on the left side, be sure to pull back into the strand about the same amount of hair you pulled initially to created the twisted strands… this will give a balanced look from the front.
  7. When you finish adding in your last twist, grab a bobby pin and sure-secure the end of the twist above the ear, making sure to hide the bobby pin as best as you can.
  8. Use hairspray {if desired} to help control flyaways.

Enjoy!

As always, if you enjoyed this hairstyle… please be sure to “blog” it, “Facebook” it, “Tweet” it, “Pin” it, “whatever-you-want” it!

Happy Hairdoing!

Five {5} Strand Messy Braid | Top Hairstyles

Sunday, February 26th, 2012

I am a HUGE fan of messy braid hairstyles, and you can see them pretty much anywhere right now in movies, on TV, in magazines, etc. They are so popular that we decided to give you the 5-Strand Messy Braid tutorial today!

5-Strand Messy Braid Hairstyle

When you braid hair, whatever the braid variation, it is important to understand the stranding. For this braid, the stranding is a bit complex, since you are using five strands instead of three. Once you get the hang of it, this gorgeous braid will take very little time to create.

5-Strand Messy Braid Hairstyle

{If you do not know how to braid with five strands, make sure you are comfortable with a 3-stranded braid first.}

Be sure to watch the video carefully to see how we incorporate the additional two strands. Then, as we finish the hairstyle, we tie off the braid and then loosen the “elbows” of the braid {we call this pancaking} for that messy boho look.

Wherever I go with this braided hairstyle, I receive so many compliments because you can easily tell that it does not look like a regular braid. Other girls want to know exactly how I did the hairstyle, and I am sure that you will get the same reaction! Enjoy!

Items Needed: Brush, comb, ponytail holder, hairspray {if desired}

Time Requirement: 5 minutes
