Beachy Combo | Teen Hairstyles

March 02, 2009

This style is nice because it is one of many hairstyles that can be a fancy “dressy do” or a casual fun do. Use it for a fancy family party, church, or even just a regular school day.

It can also be used on long hair or short hair (I have done it on long hair here), and is actually one of my favorite Picture Day hairstyles!

Items Needed: Brush, comb, hairspray, 3-barrel curling iron, flat iron, curling iron, and 3 rubber bands.

Time Requirement: 10-15 minutes ***Could take longer if you get more elaborate**

Skill Level: Medium

Start with DRY hair. Part on the left. My daughter’s hair is pretty much naturally straight so I just let it air dry. But if you have curly hair you may want to straighten it first…

Now part a little section on the left and braid it (secure ends with rubber band)…

Section off a little piece in the back of hair and braid it (also securing with rubber band)…

Section off a piece in the front right of hair and braid (also securing with rubber band)…

Now pick up a piece of hair next to each braid and *three-barrel* it (you will do three sections in total)…

Now pick up a piece of hair on the other side of each braid and curl it with a curling iron. You will do between 3-5 curls. Just fill in any blank areas…

You will now have this.

Obviously, the more sections you do… the longer it will take. But it can be really fun! The above picture was taken of “K” in the morning. Later that day after hiking and playing in the canyons, this is what she looked like (the hairdo held up really well!)…

Second-Day Do: Curls After Triple Twists w/ Messy Buns

January 08, 2009

Here’s another “Second-Day Do”. This means you can do the the Triple Twists with Messy Buns hairstyle on Day 1, then you simply use the curls or waves from that do for Day 2. Makes a quick, easy restyle!

Items Needed: Brush, comb, hairspray, 1 rubber band.

Time Required: 3 minutes

Skill Level: Easy

This is what the original hairstyle looked like…

If you can’t remember how to do this style, click Triple Twisty Buns. To create the second-day ‘do, simply remove all buns and twists. Brush out hair so hair is full and beautiful…

Now gather up the sides from the ears back and put into an elastic… I simply gather up all the hair that was in the original six twists. (if you look close at this picture you can even see the outline of the twists still in her hair)

Add a ribbon or bow.

Spritz a little hairspray to keep curls pretty all day. DONE!!!

Happy Hairdoing!

"2nd-Day Do's": Curls from Double-French Braids

October 27, 2008

Second-Day Hairstyles are some of my favorites in terms of ease and speed!

If you wear braids {simple, French, or Dutch}, bantu knots, or anything of the like… the next day you will have gorgeous curls to use as a base for another hairstyle!

Items Needed: Comb, brush, hairspray

Time Requirement: 2 minutes

Skill Level: Easy

Take the braids out from the day before and brush through hair. Hair will look like this…

Spritz VERY lightly with water in spots where hair is a little too fluffy or laying weird. Rat the top of hair near the crown. (To rat hair: Take front section of hair and run comb from middle of hair strand down toward head. This is going against the natural grain of hair and makes a sort of bunch or “rat’s nest” of hair.) Once you get the wanted puff then take the comb and very gently comb over the top layer to smooth out awkward spots…

Add headband. Use hairspray to fluff and place hair up around the back of the headband…

Happy Hairdoing!
