Bandana Curls | No-Heat Curl Hairstyles

January 19, 2014

Our No-Heat Curl tutorial series has been very popular, because a lot of teens and moms are trying to avoid using too much heat on their hair but still want voluminous curls.

It’s about time that we posted another no-heat tutorial!

No-Heat Bandana Curls {The styles are also popular for single or involved daddies who are intimidated by using heat tools anywhere near their daughters!}

Today we are going to teach you how to create beautiful No-Heat Bandana Curls using just a few bandanas/handkerchiefs, a few rubber bands, and a water spray bottle.

This curling technique gives you more of a wave than a full curl, and it dries fairly well because the fabric breathes and allows moisture to evaporate as you sleep. This is what helps set the curl.

No-Heat Bandana Curls No-Heat Bandana Curls We have used the curls as is, and we have also incorporated them as a base for several hairstyle combos. In this tutorial, my daughter Brooklyn simply added a simple daisy accented headband as an accessory.

This No-Heat Bandana Curls tutorial is so easy, we know that you all can do it!

Enjoy!

Items Needed: Brush, spray bottle, 3-5 small hair elastics, hairspray and accessory {if desired}.

Time Requirement: 5 minutes

Skill Level: Easy

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Begin by brushing the hair, and parting it where you  normally would…
  2. Now, divide hair into halves side to side…
  3. Then, divide each half into half once again, but top to bottom this time {you should have four total sections each creating essentially a square shape}…
  4. Using a water bottle, take your first top section and spray it down until slightly damp {not soaking}…
  5. Now take a diagonally-folded bandana and wrap it in half around the base of that hair section, next to the head…
  6. Then tightly braid the hair around the bandana, using the bandana ends ad your two other strands…
  7. When you run out of hair, secure the ends with an elastic {the bandana will help pull some of the moisture off the hair, and also add thickness to prevent the hair from getting too kinky or wavy}…
  8. Sleep on hair overnight, or let it dry all day.
  9. The next morning, take the bandanas out, tip the head upside down and gently shake the curls loose with fingers {this separates the curls enough to give them a nice voluminous look}.
  10. Tip the head back up and finger comb the hair until the curls are to your liking.
  11. Add a cute accent braid, accessory, or hairspray {as desired}.

How to Get Deep Waves | Curled Hairstyles

October 20, 2013

Don’t forget to hashtag your own photo recreations of these waves by using #CGHDeepWaves on Instagram and Twitter… they just might be reposted by us!

Many of you have asked how I have achieved the waves worn in my past several videos. Well, today is the day that I teach you how to do it!

Nothing special, nothing complicated… it is actually quite easy.  I use a deep V waver.

Deep Waves | Curly Hairstyles What I love about these deep waves is that it makes perfect base for a second day hairstyle. All you have to do on day 2 is re-crimp the top layer and finger comb it… and you are good to go!

As always, it is important to remember to first spray your hair with a good heat protectant never to use too much heat. When I crimp, you will notice that I also never hold it more than 2-3 seconds. These irons get super hot, so that should be all you need.

Pay attention to how I manage my part line  and wave the top of the hair, because my cool trick will leave your hair looking more natural!

As promised, here are links to a few deep wavers that I have used…

Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, heat protectant, Deep V Waver, hairspray {if desired}.

Time Requirement: 8-12 minutes

Skill Level: Easy

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Begin with dry hair, although you do not have to blowdry before this style {it is just as cute if you sleep on wet hair and let it air dry}…
  2. Always spritz heat protectant on your hair before using heat…
  3. Section your hair into thirds and pull the top two thirds up and pin out of the way…
  4. Take a strand of hair in the bottom section and begin crimping with the heated Deep Waver at the base of the strand next to the head. {Crimp the waver down on hair and hold for 2-3 seconds. You do not want to hold for a long time.}
  5. Move the waver down the hair strand about 5 inches and repeat the crimp, continuing down the entire strand…
  6. When you are done crimping the bottom section, pull the next section of hair down and begin waving it in the same manner…
  7. Continue the same with the top layer, except you part the top layer down the middle first and then wave it…
  8. Next, find the side part you want and flip the hair over the middle part {this gives a  more natural look for the waves on top and does not show the waver crimp marks on top as much.
  9. Finger comb the hair to get the desired look, and feel free to crimp any missed strands.
  10. Add some hairspray {optional} to hold the waves.
