High Cheer Bun | Updo Hairstyles

July 13, 2011

A month ago I was in California with my best friend and her daughters, where I filmed a few updo hairstyles.  This one is perfect for cheerleading or ballet, since it is a bun hairstyle, but it is also perfect for occasions such as prom or other formal occasions!

I forgot to snap a few still shots of this style when I was in California, so I recreated the hairstyle on  my daughter last week.

What I love about this particular bun style is that you can finish it off in any number of ways. We show three options here… wrapping the bun with a braid, splitting the hair and then cross wrapping, and then twisting the hair strands and wrapping.  One that I forgot to mention is that you could fishtail braid the strands and then wrap the bun.  That makes four options you can use!

This tutorial is filmed on the daughter of my best friend, who can sometimes be a goof!  Check out her cheesy smiles anytime the camera focuses in on her directly!  She is a great girl!  Enjoy!

Items Needed:  Brush, comb, water bottle, 2 hairbands, 2-3 bobby pins, and gel/pomade/hairspray (if desired).

Time Requirement:  2-3 minutes

Skill Level: Easy

Double French Twistback | Short Hairstyles

June 29, 2011

By request, I have started to go through some of our short hairstyles that we have not yet filmed.

I have done this double twist hairstyle before in a photo tutorial, but here I decided to film it on my #4 daughter who has the short A-line bob. It is another simple way to pull the bangs back out of your face.

Although this is listed as a short hairstyle, it can be done on any length of hair. If you are concerned about flyaways… feel free to use a good pomade or fiber gum in the twists. Enjoy!

Items Needed: Rat-tail comb, 1 gator clip, one hair elastic, bobby pins, water bottle and hairspray (if desired).

Time Requirement: 5 minutes

Skill Level: Easy

Single Twistback | Mom Hairstyles

May 16, 2011

I am on a recent mission to provide those of you moms some more simple, yet cute, mommy hairdos!  I mean, we make our girls look cute… but sometimes we forget about ourselves!  Actually, girls of all ages can use this, and it literally takes one minute to complete!

Single Twistback Hairstyle

We call this the Single Twistback, and it can be used to switch up the French Front hairstyle that you are seeing everywhere right now.  I show two ways to finish it off, but you can really use your own imagination and see where it goes!

{Yeah, I can’t really hide it!  I am still sooooo excited about being named as a finalist in the YouTube contest above!  My girls keep asking me where we stand in the voting (it is close), I think the twins are maybe more “into” this friendly competition than I am!  Now, back to the hairstyle…}

Items Needed: Rat-tail comb, one rubber hair band, two small bobby pins

Time Requirement: 1-2 minutes

Skill Level: Easy

How to French Braid | Back to Basics

April 28, 2011

Hello Ladies!!!  One of the most frequent requests I receive is for a “basic tutorial” on how to French braid.

Since so many of my braid and twist hairstyles incorporate the basic stranding used in a French Braid, we decided a few months back to film this tutorial. Although we uploaded it to YouTube, we never posted it here.

Simple French Braid

Many of you may already know how to French braid, but this video is really meant for those who are struggling, or simply do not know how.  If you have “tweeners” who are almost teenagers, and you want to help teach your daughter how to do her own hair, this is a good start.

The French braid is a doorway style to pretty much anything you can think of… if you can master it, you can pretty much do any hairstyle. (Click here if you are looking for a cute French braid hairstyle for soccer, be sure to visit the link.)

Items Needed:  Brush, rat-tail comb, one hair band, water bottle, hairspray, accessory (if desired).

Time Requirement: 5 minutes

Skill Level: Easy

Note from Mindy:  I want to thank you all for the wonderful compliments you post here, on Facebook, YouTube or via email! I wish I had the time each day to respond to them all (literally 100’s), but I do want you to trust me when I say that we read EVERY single one!  Those compliments are what motivates me to keep going on this hairblog!

Daddy 'Do Hairstyles | Triple-Flipped Ponytail

December 14, 2010

Hi Ladies, I think you will love this one! This was the very first Daddy ‘Do hairstyle that my husband filmed (right before the Simple Braid tutorial we posted recently).

The style is really cute, and is actually one submitted by a follower on Facebook. What is unique about this hairstyle is that it looks far more complicated than it is!

It gives a similar look of the Fishtail Braid without having to spend alot of time doing the actual braid. All it takes is three simple flips and you are done!

The filming of this hairstyle tutorial absolutely cracked me up, because it REALLY shows how funny yet sweet it can be to have a daddy do a daughter’s hair!

First, notice how gentle he is being while trying to flip the hair, then notice how he confuses himself on how to put in a hairband… not once, but TWICE! As he misses it the second time, check out my daughter’s face! She could barely hold back her laughter (and you can hear me snickering as well)!

Items Required: Rat-tail comb, brush, Topsy Tail tool, spray bottle, three hair bands, hairspray, and accessory (if desired).

Time Requirement: 5 minutes.

Skill Level: Easy

My hubby was proud of the outcome and so was I! If you also like this hairstyle… be sure to let us know!

Happy Hairdoing!
