Bedroom Bedlam and Monsters University

June 21, 2013

Our family has been a huge fan of Disney-Pixar’s Monsters, Inc, since it first came out in 2001. We thought that Boo was so adorable with her cute pigtails and she reminded us so much of our twins at the time. Then when we had CGH#3, we actually called her Boo for awhile!

In fact, some of you may remember that in our early years here at CGH, we carved a Halloween pumpkin with Boo’s image from Monster’s, Inc.  We had carved it several years since, as well!

As I am sure you would agree, I was thrilled a few weeks ago when Fandango approached me with an opportunity to attend the press junket for Disney-Pixar’s prequel called Monsters University, which opened in theaters this week.

Me interviewing Billy Crystal for Fandango at the Disney-Pixar “Monsters University” press junket.

I was able to visit Pixar’s headquarters, view a pre-premier screening of the movie, and interview the Director, Executive Producer, and the very funny main actors!

Fandango has allowed me to post my interviews here, so please also feel free to watch and comment…

Prior to the interviews, I was able to film a Monsters University snippet starring… ME!  Yes, it is pretty funny, so please also check it out below…

Actually, during filming of the snippet, I was supposed to count to 100 while brushing my hair. Every time I reached 98, I would skip 99 unintentionally, and go straight to 100! I didn’t realize I was doing this until the third take. When I finally figured it out, the entire crew burst out laughing for a good minute! The rest of the day I was getting teased, of course, about my wonderful math skills!

Shortly after filming this snippet, I was ushered into a room for one-on-one interviews with Director Dan Scanlon and Executive Producer Kori Rae. I was subsequently also able to interview Billy Crystal {who voices the adorably green, one-eyed Mike Wazowski}, Nathan Fillion {who voices bully, Johnny Worthington III}, and Charlie Day {who voices the lovable and oddly-purple Art}.

Seriously, what stay-at-home mom ever gets the chance to interview a group of executives and actors like that? I mean, Billy Crystal… from City Slickers and The Princess Bride? Nathan Fillion from one of my favorite current TV series Castle? They were each so kind, hilariously funny, and provided great insights into their characters and the wonderful moral messaging of the movie.

The whole experience was simply amazing and so much fun… definitely one I will not forget anytime soon! From our home, and from our CGH fans, we thank Disney-Pixar and Fandango for giving us such a wonderful opportunity!

Feel free to make some family time this weekend and take your children to see Monsters University. I can’t wait to take my kids!

Happy Hairdoing!

Tinker Bell Hair Bun | Disney Hairstyles

May 01, 2013

Tinker Bell has to be one of the most-beloved Disney Characters in my household! CGH #4 particularly loves Tinker Bell, and we have collected all of her movies over the years!

When Disney asked me to create this hairstyle tutorial, I was super thrilled at the prospect of being inspired by Tinker Bell’s adorable fairy bun!

Please note that the 2D photos of Tinker Bell in the past have her wearing a teal blue ribbon at the base of the bun, which is what I show you here. {The ribbon is replaced by green vines in the more recent 3D images.}

Tinker Bell Hair Bun | Disney Hairstyles

TinkerBell Hair Bun | Disney Hairstyles As we planned this hairstyle, I really needed some blonde hair to make the tutorial just right! Nope, no blonde hair anywhere in our home! Luckily for me… one of my best friends was willing to lend me her five-year old daughter, who was tickled pink to help me out!

Be sure to stay to the end of the video, because there is a really cute clip there that you will not want to miss!

Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 1 bun maker {matching hair color}, 2-3 bobby pins, 2 hair elastics, hairspray {if desired}, and blue sheer ribbon.

Time Requirement: 2-3 minutes

Skill Level: Easy

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Begin by brushing the hair, and combing all the hair into a high ponytail {remember, this is a high bun, so be sure that the ponytail is on the top of the head}…
  2. Secure the ponytail with a rubber band…
  3. Slide the ponytail through the middle of the bun maker, or hair doughnut…
  4. Let the hair fall evenly around the bun maker {try to get hair evenly placed so that the bun maker is not visible at all}…
  5. Using another hair band, slide it over the bun maker and release it at the base to create the perfect looking bun {you should have the ends of the hair still sticking out of the base}…
  6. Now, pick up a small strand of the ends of the hair near the front, and begin to twist them…
  7. As you work your way around, add in hair as you go {this will create a cute twist all the way around the base of the bun}…
  8. When you run out of hair, secure the ends at the base with a couple of bobby pins, and tuck in any loose ends…
  9. Lastly, wrap your ribbon around the front base of the bun, and tie it into a cute fairy bow in the back.

This hairstyle is perfect for fairy birthday parties, Halloween, ballet, and dance.  Since it is a bun, you can use it for any number of occasions like family parties, recitals, etc.

Heavens, I’ll wear it too!

Enjoy your adorable Tinker Bell Bun!

CuteGirlsHairstyles on Disney Junior

February 06, 2013

Several months ago we were contacted by a producer from Disney Online who asked if we would be interested in helping out with one of their online episodes…

Ironically, we were already in LA meeting with another division within Mickey-ville responsible for the DisneyStyle YouTube channel… and neither division knew about the other’s interest in us! Since we were already in town, we agreed to help.

Dads | CuteGirlsHairstyles on DisneyJr

We filmed this webisode with Mark and his beautiful 2-yr old daughter. Mark is a stay-at-home dad who is doing his absolute best to cover for mom while she works. {There is something so cute about a daddy “trying” that endears them to us, right???}

Here we introduce Mark to the Topsy Tail tool, and how to use it. In fact, Shaun, my hubby demonstrates it for him… and Mark learned it perfectly!

Interestingly enough, this Dads short was only supposed to be viewed on Disney Online, however all throughout these past two months, it has been airing on Disney Jr at night! {That came as a HUGE surprise to us!}

How did we know??? Several hundred of our fans throughout the US have been commenting on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, or emailing us to state that they had just seen us on Disney Junior!

Well, we contacted Disney and the responsible team authorized us {thanks, Disney!} to show you our Dads episode here on Cute Girls Hairstyles…

Enjoy!

If you loved this video, please go here and leave a comment for Mark {the dad} about how awesome he did!  We certainly need more involved daddies like Mark in this world!

And… as always, feel free to share! Happy Hairdoing!

Vanellope von Schweetz | Wreck-It Ralph Hairstyles

November 25, 2012

Vanellope von Schweetz, the sweet, but very spunky character from Disney’s new movie Wreck-It Ralph is sure to inspire you or your daughter next Halloween or Crazy Hair Day!

Vanellope von Schweetz Hairstyle

When Disney first provided us with photos, long before the movie came out, we knew it would be a challenge that my daughters and I could meet!  We tried hard to keep the style true to form, and you can now see this style on Disney.com and the DisneysStyle YouTube channel.

Here’s how to get Vanellope’s deliciously-edible hairstyle…

You may need some bobby pins with a flat head and mini jaw clips.  You then can hot glue the candies and fake peppermints onto the flat heads, so they stay firmly in place in the hair.

Hairstyle Steps:

  1. If you have bangs, part them to one side and straighten them to frame the face. {If you don’t have bangs simply pull all your hair back into the ponytail.}
  2. Create a high ponytail.  You simply comb all the hair up to the top of the head and secure with an elastic…
  3. Tease the top of the ponytail to add volume and fullness…
  4. I tied the licorice around the ponytail holder and cut the ends short enough they stuck up a little, as seen in the movie and photos.  Also you may want to use some red fluffy yarn instead of licorice, depending on whether you want to use real licorice in your hair and humidity…
  5. Now… have fun accessorizing the hair with an assortment of your real and/or fake treats!

Items Needed: Brush, comb, hairspray, rubberbands, and lots of treats or craft items.  Some of the items we used included a 2-foot Pull-n Peel Twizzlers licorice rope, for the signature hair tie.  We also used Spree candy, scrapbook pop-up dots, peppermint candies {fake}, candy buttons, etc. Flat-head bobby pins, hot glue gun.

Time Requirement: 10-15 minutes

Skill Level: Medium

Enjoy!

Happy Hairdoing!
