Ribboned Bobby Pins | Tips and Tricks

February 13, 2011

This video tutorial shows a very simple way to spice up an updo hairstyle, for any holiday occasion. This one happens to be for Valentine’s Day.

Holiday Messy Bun (Back)

In this video (you can use Messy Bun #1 or Messy Bun #2), I use a thin ribbon cut into small strips (length can vary), and then tie them onto bobby pins. You can tie the ribbons into tiny bows if you would like, but I did not have time when I filmed this tutorial. If you make the ribbons longer… you can curl them by running the edge of scissors along the ribbon so that they look like curly-q’s. Then I place the bobby pins throughout the messy bun until the hair style looks right.

Holiday Messy Bun (Side)
This tip is perfect for any holiday or special occasion by using the colors of that holiday, for students or cheerleaders who want to wear school colors, and for brides/flower girls who want to accent their updo with white-ribboned bobby pins.

Tools Needed

Items Needed: 6-8 small bobby pins, thin colored ribbon, scissors

Time Requirement: 5+ minutes

Skill Level: Easy

Happy Hairdoing!

In order to fairly tabulate the votes, I pulled up the top four photos at 11:55pm last night on four internet screens. At 12:00 midnight, I refreshed all four photos to get the exact vote count at that time and then captured screen shots for each (in case anyone wants to see them).

Since voting was so close for third place, I have decided to offer a $10 gift card for 4th place as an Honorable Mention.

Thanks to each of you who submitted a photo and those of you who took the time to vote. I hope you all enjoyed this contest and received some good costume ideas for next year! If you are one of our four winners, please email me your gift card choice (WalMart, Target, or Sally Beauty Supply) as well as your full name and mailing address.

Thanks, and Happy Hairdoing!

Costume Contest: Your Vote Counts (Ended)

November 02, 2010

Thanks to all of you wonderful moms all over the world who submitted amazing photos of your children in super cute Halloween costumes! I must say, you are such a creative bunch! There are so many absolutely adorable faces in costume that it will be interesting to see who wins!

Halloween Costume Contest

As for us, this is how we dressed this year…

Pirate Family

Now, apparently Facebook has a limitation on the number of photos in an album (only 200), so with over 300 photos submitted (way more than I had anticipated), we had to create two albums.  Both albums can be found on our Facebook Fanpage.

Album A

Album B

To give you a jumpstart, I added a link to my YouTube channel page that has about 40,000 visits per day and also here for our website visitors.

Remember, that in order to vote, that person must have a FB account and needs to “Like” our page. Instructions on how to vote are included here. Be sure to get all of your family and friends to vote! You may email them the links, post them on your blog/website, Facebook or Twitter status, etc, to try and get the most votes to win!  Voting ends at midnight on November 8th!

Funny enough… I hadn’t actually counted on this contest’s votes beginning on November 2, National Voting Day! What excellent timing! Good luck and Happy Voting!

An example of the type of photo we expect to see is posted below. (So many of you have expressed interest in seeing a younger photo of my twins, so I posted this Halloween photo from 2002. Yes, they were a mere 22 months old at the time of this photo!) Aren’t they so cute???

  • The child must be between 0-10 years of age, and only one photo per child may be submitted.
  • All photos must be emailed to me at cutegirlshairstyles(at)gmail.com by midnight November 1st, MST.
  • Photos must be child appropriate and cannot be offensive in any way (or they will not be posted).
  • I will post all qualifying photos at once on November 2nd, to give everyone a fair chance and equal timeframe for obtaining the most votes.

  • You must be age 18 years of age or older to enter a photo and by emailing me you are consenting that you comply.

  • All voters will need to become a fan of our facebook page before they can vote for any photos (see below)…
  • Become a Fan

  • Then simply email the photo or album link to all your friends and family, post it to your blog or Facebook/Twitter status, etc. to try and get as many Likes on your photo as possible between Nov 2-8th!!!
  • Once your photo is submitted, votes will be counted via the “Like” feature below your photo in our photo contest album (see below).
  • Like a Photo

  • The more likes you get, the more votes in order to win. Total likes equals total votes (1 like = 1 vote).
  • Per Facebook coding, each fan can only vote for a photo once, which is great because it prevents gaming. You may, however, vote for as many photos as you wish.
  • Be sure to vote for your own child! I’d be concerned if you didn’t!

We are anxious to see all of your cute kids in their awesome and creative Halloween costumes! I am really excited to see what you come up with!

* Just a reminder… be sure that your digital camera is charged before you head out to that party or Trick-or-Treating!!!

Cute Girls Hairstyles – Carved Pumpkin 2009

October 30, 2009

In honor of Adopt a ‘Do – Cute Girls Hairstyles, my hubby and girls decided to carve a pumpkin for Halloween of a super cute little girl with pigtails! It wasn’t the best photo because we took the picture this morning and my camera was wigging out with the awkward lighting. (Ever try to take a picture of a lit Jack-O-Lantern???)

Items Needed: Pumpkin, marker, stencil, poking pin, knife. (Power tools at husband’s insistence, drill and Dremel.)
Time Requirement: 5 long hours.

Cool Carved PumpkinAt any rate, you may recognize this little girl… if you guessed Boo from Monsters, Inc., you were right! We chose her because she reminded us so much of our own girls.

How does it look? I think they did a great job, although it did take five hours to carve! (To see a close-up, go ahead and click the picture!) Crazy how real it looks, eh? Just in case you did not believe this is our pumpkin, I took the following photos in the daylight…

In the light, it really looks like a mess… but put in a lit candle and turn off the lights and magic happens!

Also, Don’t forget to enter our November’s Hairdoer of the Month contest. The winning entry will be posted on November 7th…click the link to see submission guidelines! This has been a fun idea for the site and we want to see more of your cute do’s! Show us what you’ve got!!!

Happy Halloween!
