We are excited to announce our first ever official CuteGirlsHairstyles “Meet & Greet”!
Since we live in Utah, we feel it only fitting to do our first meeting here locally. We have rented out a movie theater for Disney’s OZ The Great and Powerful and want to invite nearly 200 of you to join us!
We were even able to secure the movie showing for March 7th, the night before it officially launches to the public on the 8th!!! So, you will be seeing it before the rest of the world!
Come and enjoy a free and fun night out, meet the CuteGirlsHairstyles family, and enjoy an opportunity to win exciting giveaway items {including some of our favorite hair tools from NuMe Products and Curlformers!!! We may have a few other surprises as well! Here are all the details…
Movie: Disney’s OZ The Great and Powerful
Rating: PG
Date & Time: Thursday, March 7th at 9pm. {We know that this is late for young kids, particularly for a school night, but Disney would not budge on the time since it is a pre-release showing.}
Where: At a theater in North Utah County, Utah. {The exact location will arrive in your winning email, if you are selected. We cannot provide the exact theater location here only so that we do not have thousands of fans crashing the theater, or claiming to be winners when they were not. We hope you understand!}
Winners: Selected at random, for two (2) complimentary tickets. Only one winner per household. {Unfortunately, we will not be able to sell you any additional tickets to the movie for other family members or friends. Please also do not enter to win tickets unless you can actually attend. Our family is paying for each ticket individually, and a premium fee to make this a CGH event, so if you are a no-show… it could deter us from doing another movie Meet & Greet in the future.}
Here’s how you can join us:
- Any fan can enter, as long as they plan on being in Utah on that date for the Meet & Greet. {We assume that most winners will be from Utah or surrounding states, but they do not have to be.}
- Be a Subscriber to our CuteGirlsHairstyles YouTube channel.
- Then, go to our website, and scroll down the page until you see a box asking for your email address to join our newsletter {see image below of what to look for}…
- Enter your email address, and submit it. We will be drawing randomly from all of the email address submissions between now and 12:00 noon on Thursday, Feb 28th. Only one email address submission per household is allowed. {This email address is what we will use to provide all movie information and Meet & Greet details to you, so this must be your actual email account. If our email bounces back we will select a new winner.} By submitting your email address, you agree to these rules.
- Wait for a confirmation email from me on Thurs Feb 28th containing all details of the Meet & Greet. {If you do not receive an email, your email address was not randomly selected. All specific details on where the theater is located, and how to check in, will be contained in that confirmation email.}
- When you receive your confirmation email, immediately reply back to me confirming that you will be there. If we have not received a reply within 24 hours of sending the confirmation to you, we will select another winner.
We are thrilled to be doing this, and a little nervous that nobody will show! {I guess that is just normal, right?}

Faux Fishtail Braid | Easy Braid Hairstyles

Today’s video features CGH#1 filming her very first tutorial!
If you are like me and my girls, you love fishtail braids… but fishtails can take “soooo looooong” to style! We have shown you before how to create fake fishtail braids, but this technique is so easy and super fast!
My twins love this style because it’s so fast and easy, but looks so much like a fishtail that sometimes people cannot even tell a difference!
CGH #1 wanted to show all of you this braid because it is a morning go-to style when you are in a hurry because it can be done in “2 minutes or less”!
Items Needed: Brush, 1 small hair elastic, hairspray {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 1-2 minutes
Skill Level: Very Easy
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Begin by sweeping the hair over to one side and over the shoulder {your hair can be curly or straight to begin with… either one looks great}…
- Take you thumb and forefinger and push them through the back of your hair to the front of the hair…
- Then, using those two fingers… grab the bottom of the ponytail and flip it through the hole created by your fingers…
- Make sure and hold the hair securely after the first flip, so that the twist generated by the flip does not unravel {This one can easily come undone if you don’t hold it tight. Also, don’t worry if the flip is down away from your head a bit}…
- If you feel that the flip is down too low simply reinsert your thumb and forefinger again through the hair {make sure you don’t go through the exact same spot!} and pull the bottom of the ponytail through once more {you want the new flip to be slightly off from the original one}…
- Give the hair a slight tug downward to help straighten out any excess bumps or thickness in flips {you will notice that once you have created a flip or two, your hair will likely hold its shape and often won’t even come undone if you let go}…
- Continue down the ponytail, adding as many flips as you wish by using the same method as above. {Please make sure each time you are instering your fingers through the ponytail, that you do so in a slightly different spot. This help the hair hold, and creates the fishtail braid-like look.
- When you run out of hair, secure the the bottom with an elastic.
- Feel free to loosen any pieces or tug on the edges of the fishtail to create a messier more romantic look.
Also, we present to you our four favorite names for our new family puppy… from the over 16,000 fan suggestions you left in our last video. Our four favorites are Chewy {from Chewbacca in Star Wars}, Thor {because this little guy is so tough}, Mousse {play on words for a tough Moose and the mousse foam used in hair, and Braidy {play on words for Brady, the boy’s name, and “Braid”y, since we are huge fans of braids!

I want to introduce you to a very good friend of mine, Anne from AnneOrShine on YouTube! We met Anne at VidCon in 2012 and we have seen each other many times since.
Here at CGH, I have promised to bring you the treasures we find on YouTube, and Anne is definitely one of them! She specializes in DIY crafting and fashion, specifically in recycling and repurposing items around your home! Must… SUBSCRIBE… to her… now!!!
For the hairstyle in this collaboration, I have been seeing the Teased Bun everywhere and bet that you are too! From the Red Carpet… to catwalks… the teased bun is hot, Hot, HOT!
{Not to be mistaken with the ballet bun, the teased bun has much more volume and more of a tousled, effortless look!}
After our hairstyle video, there is a link to Anne’s channel where we both show you how to incorporate the hair accessories {bows and hair jewelry} we made using old ties and broken necklaces! {You can also see her video from the collab here!}
What I love about Anne’s accessories, along with our hairstyle, is that you can wear the bow all day and then later switch it out for the hair jewelry strands for a more formal/fancy look for a night on the town!

Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 1 large hairband, 4-6 bobby pins, hairspray and hair bow or jewelry {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 5-8 minutes
Skill Level: Easy
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Begin by brushing your hair and pulling it into a high ponytail {You may find it easier to tip your head upside down when creating the ponytail. This will ensure that you get the HIGH ponytail look, instead of a ponytail on the back of your head}…
- Once you have created the high ponytail, secure it hair with a hair band {I wanted a very soft and messy look, so I intentionally left the hair loose and even allowed some to stay out of the ponytail}…
- Take either a comb or a teasing brush and begin teasing the hair of the ponytail a little at a time {I usually divide the ponytail into 4-5 sections to ensure all the hair is teased. The teasing usually just brushes out when you are done.}
- When the ponytail is teased {a good sign is when the hair can almost stand by itself at the base}, then use the teaser brush to smooth down the top hair of the ponytail leaving the teased volume underneath…
- Next, twist the hair very slightly and begin to wrap the hair around the elastic to create a bun. {I did this in a clockwise direction, but feel free do it in a counter-clockwise direction if you wish}…
- When the bun is positioned the way you want it, use bobby pins to pin the rest of the hair into place….
- Add any accessory you desire {such as the DIY cute hair jewelry or hair bow that Anne showed us how to make}.

A few weeks ago, we posted a video called the Ladder Braid Side Ponytail, and it received a lot of positive feedback!
In fact, one of our fans, Ceridwin, adapted the feather braid technique to create a new, beautiful “stacked” braid look, and sent us a photo on Twitter!
I loved it so much that asked her to tell me exactly how she did it so that I could teach you! She agreed, emailed me her instructions, and here you go!
You simply create a large feather braid, with tiny strands coming off each stitch from both sides of the braid. You then go back and Dutch braid the feathered strands on top of the regular braid, and then pancake the latter. Further instructions are below…
Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 1 small hair elastic, hairspray {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 5-8 minutes
Skill Level: Medium
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Begin by brushing the hair and pulling it to wherever you want the braid to lay. {In the video, I did the hair straight down the back, but a side braid would also be very cute.}
- Using all of your hair, section it into three strands and create the first “stitch” of a simple braid…
- After the first stitch, on every outside edge, you will begin creating a Feather Braid… {On the left-most strand of hair, pull out a sliver of hair off the top and lay it to the side. For a DIY, you can use a clip, teeth, or extra hands to hold the strands out of the way.} Also, for this braid, I chose to feather off larger strands at the top and smaller feathers as we worked our way down…
- Now cross that outside strand over the middle to become the middle strand….
- Then, go to the right-most section of hair and pull out a sliver of hair off the top and lay it to the side, and cross the remaining strand over into the middle…
- Repeat these alternating steps until you run out of hair.
- Secure with an elastic. You should have a normal-looking braid with feather strands of hair coming off both sides of the braid all the way down. {Kind of looks like a feather, huh? LOL! That’s why we call it a Feather Braid!}
- Now, pick up the top two feather strands of the left and the top feather strand on the right.
- Begin a Dutch braid using those strands. {When you need to add hair into the braid, use ONLY the other feather strands of hair on both sides of the braid.}
- When you run out of feather strands, finish off with 2-3 stitches of a regular braid….
- Then, undo the original hair elastic and secure both braids together with that same elastic.
- You should now have two braids right on top of each other, the Stacked Braids.
- To help the Dutch braid stand out just a bit more, you may choose to “pancake” the bottom braid edges, as I did, by gently tugging on the elbows to make them a little more puffy. {This helps add to the overall illusion of braid awesomeness!}
