Triple-Braided Tieback | Bohemian Hairstyles

This hairstyle is one that I know you will enjoy simply because it is not likely one you have seen before, but its definitely one that will garner attention everywhere you go!
We’ve posted a Single Braid Tieback before, and these types of looks are very Bohemian {or Boho} -looking… something that Renaissance girls might have worn, but trendy enough to be worn today! Feel free to add texture {curls} to the hair for a different look!
I have worn this, my girls have worn it, so this hairstyle will work on girls of any age!
Items Needed: Brush, rat-tailcomb, 5 clips to hold hair, 6 small hair elastics, hairspray {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 10 minutes
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Begin by parting the hair down the middle of the head. No part from the middle to each ears. You should have a large square shaped section on either side of the head.
- Part each section into three smaller sections (for a total of six). Make sure to keep the sections as equal as possible based on hair thickness. You may need to do smaller sections on the top and larger sections near the ears.
- Secure five of the sections with a hair clip to keep them out of the way until you need them.
- Braid all six sections and either have your daughter hold them or secure with elastics. Make sure you braid going DOWN the head toward the shoulder. Not back toward the back of head. This makes a huge difference in the way the braids lay when finished. You only need to braid them far enough to reach the center back of head.
- Now pick up the top braid on either side. Pull them back to the center of your head and secure with an elastic. Pull out any other elastics that were holding the ends of the braids and allow hair to fall free.
- Pick up the middle briads on either side, plus the ponytail of hair falling from the first braids and secure all of them together about 1 inch lower. Remove any extra elastics and allow hair to fall free.
- Pick up bottom braids on either side, plus the ponytail of hair fralling from the first and second braids and secure them together about 1 inch lower. Remove any extra elastics and allow hair to fall free.
- Add a ribbon if desired.

Leather Accent Loony Braids | Cute Braids

Since Halloween is only a few days away, we decided to show you what CGH#3 wants to be for Halloween! She did not want to be a fairy, or something scary… she wanted to be someone from history. The challenge is to come up with cute Halloween hairstyles!
We, of course, were going for Pocahontas, but are very careful not use the character name in the tutorial due to our contract with Disney, so we are calling this a “Native American Princess” hairstyle.
{* Note from Mindy: Please note, my daughter’s choice in dress this year is not in any way mocking an indigenous culture and is nothing more than an honor and celebration of it. She has been studying early American history in school this first semester, talks about Native American culture every day, and has been checking out books at the library and reading them on her own. She loves the stories of Pocahontas and Sacagawea. Not sure if any of our fans, know this, but our youngest daughter is 1/16th Native American {from her great-great grandmother}. We honor and celebrate all cultures in our home.}
Given all of our braided hairstyles to choose from, we simply could not settle for a 3-strand braid. We wanted something a little different, so decided to accent an idea from one of our old videos called Loony Braids.
- We began by parting the hair down the middle of the head, and into two side ponytails. We then took a basic strand of crafting leather, doubled it over, and secured it around the ponytail.
- The next step is to grab the whole ponytail and use it as one of the three braiding strands along with the two remaining strands of leather. {Yes, the hair actually becomes the 3rd strand!}
- Once I braided to the end of the ponytail, I secured it with a clear hair elastic and cut of any excess leather. You could also simply take the remaining strands of leather and create a bow at the end.
- Repeat the same steps as above on the other ponytail…
You can see that by braiding the two small strands of leather along with the ponytail acting as the 3rd strand, that the resulting braid has a very fun zig-zag look to it! You can pull out the elbows of the braid to make the braid look more “jagged”, but we left the braid as is for this style.
This can be an everyday braid, and you can substitute pretty much anything in place of the leather for a different accented look. You can use ribbon, colored yarn/string, strips of fabric, old necklace chains, etc.

As indicated in our previous post, we recently agreed to a partnership agreement with Disney to provide exclusive Disney-themed hairstyles on its Rapunzel Braid Tutorial on the DisneyStyle YouTube Channel!
For this hairstyle, I show you how to recreate the Rapunzel Braid from Disney’s Tangled first in a practical every day use of the braid… and then we dress it up with real flowers to get the Rapunzel look from the movie.
Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 4 hair elastics, hairspray, decorative hair clip or fresh flowers {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 10-15 minutes
Skill Level: Hard

I am always on the lookout for the next Waterfall Braid-type hairstyle!
About two weeks ago, a Twitter fan tweeted us a photo of a very intricately-laced bow braid hairstyle, and I thought the idea was so fun and unique! In fact, it was likely the most creative and cute hairstyle I have seen since the Waterfall Braid! So… I sat down to figure it out, but after many attempts I wasn’t having much luck at all. Close, but nothing worth posting…
Another fan, Katrina on Facebook, posted her version along with a link to a low resolution Russian YouTube video showing the exact technique. The video was at times hard to follow, and it does not show a finished hairstyle, but it provided me with just enough info to be able to master the braid! With that, I am now ready to teach you all!
You can use The Bow Braid in pretty much any hairstyle as long as there is a three-stranded French or Lace Braid involved. It will work on short hair, medium hair, long hair, layered hair, hair with bangs, combos, etc.
In the tutorial, I show you how to do Bow Braid Ponytails, but I also show you on myself and the other daughters some finished looks for a braided headband, diagonal braid, and lace braid.
Items Needed: A brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, hairspray or pomade, a hairpin (not a bobby pin), and a few hair elastics.
Time Requirement: 10-15 minutes, depending on the hairstyle you choose.
Skill Level: Hard
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Begin by braiding a section of your hair. You can use a lace braid or a 3 strand French braid. Remember you will need another ½ inch section of hair parted next to your braid to create the bows.
- Thread the hairpin, loop end first, through a section of your braid to prepare it to pull through hair for the bow.
- Take a small section of hair from the ½ inch parted section and create a loop with your fingers.
- Thread the loop of hair through the hairpin and grab loop of hair with left hand while gently tugging the hairpin back through your hair with your right hand.
- As you pull the hairpin out of the braid it will begin to form the other half of the bow. Gently tug the hairpin until you like the look of the second loop and then remove it from hair. You should now have one competed bow that runs through the braid.
- Repeat Steps 1-5 all the way down the braid until you run out of hair.
{You can see in the video that I mixed in the remaining tails of the bows back into the next strand. It may be easier and less “messy” to simply lay the tails alongside the French Braid and then bring down the next section of hair over the top for the next loop. As you finish the braid, most of the tails will be covered by the hair from the top. It all depends on how you want the bow braid to look.}
