Hairstyle Video: Top Knot into Banded Side Pony

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Here is one of our hairstyles we documented a long time ago but we received a request over the weekend for a video tutorial. We do this one quite often and it gets quite a few compliments… just wait and see! It is actually very simple ‘do and looks very cute!

Back to School Hairdo: Twist-Back into Square Knot

Friday, August 14th, 2009

Items Needed: Brush, comb, hair straightener, bobby pins, and hairspray (pomade optional).

Time Requirement: 10 minutes (15 if you straighten the hair).

Begin by straightening hair. This step isn’t necessary, but I like the look better if the hair is straight. It makes the knot stand out a bit more. If your DD’s hair is naturally straight then you are all set!

Now part hair wherever natural part falls. Section off a small piece on each side of the head and twist it back. You can use a little Pomade to help the twists stay together and eliminate flyers from static…

Take the two pieces and tie half a knot. Like you are tying a shoelace. One piece under the other and tighten them against the head. You will now have this…

Now using bobby pins secure this in place. I do it in such a way that the bobby pins are hidden. I think I used about 4-5 bobby pins…

Once the first 1/2 of the knot is secure take the remaining ends and tie together again in the same way… like you are doing a double knot. I think the official name of this is a “square knot“. Use bobby pins to secure in place once again. Leave the ends sticking out a little and fluff if necessary. Use hairspray to help hold in place…

Tween Knot into Side Ponytail | Cute Hairstyles

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

This hairdo was one of my very first ones on the blog. Since then, my readers have grown A LOT so I thought I might re-post once in awhile, just in case people missed it the first time around. This one is super easy, very fast, and can be used on little kids all the way up to teens.

Items needed: Brush, comb, water, hairspray/gel, 1 rubber band.

Time Required: 5 minutes

Start by parting the hair on top of the head into one middle section. The parts will run from front of head towards back of head…

Then create a rectangle shape by parting across the head between two previous parts…

Separate that section into two parts…

Take the two pieces of hair and tie like you are doing the first step of tying a shoelace (cross the two parts and wrap one underneath)…

This is what it should look like at this point.

Now wrap the hair underneath again… essentially a double twist. It will look like this…

Pull both strands until knot becomes tight against head…

Repeat with a second rectangle just behind the first…

Pull remainder of hair into a side ponytail and add in the 4 strands of hair from the knots on top…
