Here’s one many of you may not know… but hair adapts to the conditioner and shampoo you use.
As your hair adapts, it will become harder and harder for your hair to get clean and smooth by using these products. Your hair will actually build up a resistance to the products you are using. A good way to prevent this from happening is to change shampoos and conditioners a couple times a year.
Every six months or so (or when an old bottle of product runs out) I just grab another cheap (remember I’m on a budget), but different brand of shampoo/conditioner and rotate that in. Often I find two brands I like and just go back and forth between them. This way your hair will always be its cleanest, shiniest, and healthiest all year round.

I have a favorite comb and brush that I use. The comb I love is called a “Rat’s Tail” comb, and looks like the above picture (as you can see I need a new one! LOL). Most hairstylists use this type of comb. You can get them at Sally’s or any other hair product store, however you CANNOT get them at Walmart or Target (I’ve checked many times). The point on the end makes parting and sectioning the hair so easy. Sometimes I use the comb as a clip and hold pieces of hair into place for a second…. you get the idea.
The brush I love is called an “Ouchless” brush, by Goody. You can get it at Walmart or Target for just a few bucks and they come in a variety of colors. Instead of having rubber on the inside of the brush under the bristles, it has plastic. This makes for TONS less tangles and pulling. My girls won’t let me touch them with any other brush because they swear this one doesn’t hurt.

Comment on this post »Have you ever gotten completely done with a braid only to find one rogue piece of hair bumping out? These little flyers can ruin even the best of hairstyles! I call these flyers ‘sharks‘ since they often look like a shark fin on the head. Nobody wants to start over after already doing the whole hairdo.
Here’s a trick that works with most sharks. This one is hard to see, but if you look at the second braid to the left, right where the braid changes from a french braid to a regular braid, you will notice a shark (yes I’m really quite picky!)…
Take a bobby pin and grab the middle of the shark. Push bobby pin down into hair until hidden. This takes the excess hair in the shark and incorporates it back into the braid…
Voila!! A now-hidden Shark! (I am using my comb in this shot to show you where the bobby pin ended up.)

Comment on this post »The trick in doing great hairstyles is to have the hair looking healthy and conditioned. The best way to get such wonderful hairdo’s is to use dependable products. In fact, when doing girls hair it is really important to find the best products that work for you.
I am on a budget with five kids so I try to find affordable, yet reliable styling products.
Water for wetting down the hair is always a good idea. I am also a big fan of hairspray as well… in particular, I like RAVE 4x MEGA hairspray. For very fine hair, which tends to fall out, I use the Got2B Glued Gel or Got2B Blasting Freeze Spray. For extra loose spots or little fly-aways, try using a good Pomade to help smooth and hold in place.
Whatever your choice of products, make sure they are good, work well, and USE them!!
Happy Hairdoing!
