Double French Braid and Twist | Braid Hairstyles

Over the past few months, we have received so many requests for hairstyles that it is hard to accommodate all of them.   We wish we had time to do all of them, but with six children who are my highest priority… it is difficult to find spare time.

What we do find, however, is that there may be a reoccurring theme among the hairstyle requests…

We have had quite  few Facebook posts or emails asking for hairstyles from The Game of Thrones TV series on HBO.  We do not watch HBO, but many fans have sent in photos and I have to admit some of the hairstyles are super cute!

{Note to readers:  This is not a show that we will watch in our home, simply because we do not agree with its content.  We also would not advise anyone under the age of 18 to view it either, since it apparently contains mature content and themes.}

From an emailed photo of a hairstyle worn by the character named Sansa, here is what we are calling this the “Double French Braid & Twist”…

Steps:

  1. To begin, center-part the hair and then section off about a 1.5 inch strip on either side of the part. {These sections will provide the hair for the two French backs.}
  2. Then French Braid the right section until you reach as far back as the crown of the head, then finish of the hair with a simple braid {tying it off loosely with an elastic band}…
  3. Repeat step #2 on the left section of the hair…
  4. Then take the braids and twist them around each other, tying them off together with an hair elastic.
  5. Add hairspray {if desired}.

We added volume to the hair with a curling wand beforehand, simply to add more texture to the hairstyle. It was only on the top layer of the hair, with the underlying hair “as is”.

This would be a perfect 2nd-day hairstyle if you had braids or curls in your hair from the previous day.  It is so simple to do, as long as you know how to French Braid, and will certainly have people asking you how you did it!

Enjoy!

Items Needed:  Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, two elastic bands, hairspray, and curling iron {if desired, for texture}

Time Requirement: 5 minutes

Skill Level:  Medium

As another side note, my hubby and I officially entered a video application for The Amazing Race!  I have been trying to convince my husband to apply with me ever since season #1… but he finally gave in and decided to do it this year! The Amazing Race has been my dream for several years now, so if you happen to know someone at CBS {or know someone who knows someone}, please let them know to look for us!!!

Thanks, and Happy Hairdoing!

  3. Hi mindy im an 11 years old and I love doing hairstyles on my family and friends. I’ve even taught them all that I’ve learned from you in just 3 months like fish tale braids, French braids, and a bunch of other awsome hairstyles that involve braids and twists. All of my family says I’m super talented when it comes to doing hair and I’ve said that I’ve got it all from you. Thanks I can’t wait until I learn more hairstyles that you post. I’ll also send you some of my own hair creations that I think you’ll love.

  4. I was wondering if you could make a categorie of you doin your own hair. I love all of your hairstyles but Its hard for me to find hairstyles to do on your self because they are not I. A separate categorie

  5. Hi! I love all of the hairstyles that you create and was wondering if you could do a hairstyle that could be worn in tae-kwon-do that won’t fall out, I’ve tried everything and nothing seems to help.
    Sincerly,
    Hannah

  6. I just loooooovvvvvee this hairstyle
    Even though I don’t have long hair I still like to do this hairstyle on my friend
    She barely puts her hair up and even when she does it is always a messy and I mean MESSY low ponytail and that is when she has soccer practice or a soccer game
    I would just like to say that I LOVE your family they look like they get along do well and I know what it is like to be a twin it is just HORRIBLE my twin brother and I always fight.
    God bless you and your family. <3

  7. Hi, I was wondering how you braid the french braids so close to your hairline, because every time I do it, it starts farther back, so I would like to know how you get it so close to the hairline, thank you, Mallory

  8. I love this! I can’t french braid, so I just pulled the front into two little ponies at the back of her head and did a pull-through with each one. Then I continued the braid as normal and twisted them together. Looked great!
    Thanks for the tutorial! And good luck on your AR application- love that show!

  9. Hi Mindy and girls,
    I am 12. I LOVE your hairstyles and easy-to-follow-videos! I have a request for a hairstyle. Huh, what are the chances of you seeing this comment? Well, here’s my request anyways: I (and ALL my friends!) would really like a hairstyle for softball. The plain old pony tail gets B-O-R-I-N-G! I LOVE braids, and would like a really cool one that keeps my hair out of my face.
    If you (and your adorable girls) would like to make a softball-do, I would be so happy!
    Thanks!
