Pullbacks into Square Knot | Daddy ‘Do Hairstyles

This hairstyle tutorial is the result of what happens when daddy is home alone with the kids while I am out of town!

Unfortunately, the video I left in reserve for our usual weekly upload has sound issues.

My hubby called to let me know, which created a perfect opportunity for him to film another one of his famous Daddy ‘Do Hairstyles!  This one is called Pullbacks into Square Knot, and demonstrates perfectly his experience in scouting!

I was actually very impressed when I saw the video, that the hairstyle looked so crisp and clean! The knot looked beautiful as well, so brownie points to him for bringing you this week’s tutorial!

{Although I wasn’t quite prepared for the “surprise” action he did in the video… my daughter was trying so hard not to laugh!}

Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, one hairband, 2-4 bobby pins, pomade and hairspray {if desired}.

Time Requirement: 3-5 minutes

Skill Level: Easy

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Brush out hair…
  2. Separate off a small section of hair near each ear to create the two pullbacks…
  3. Secure remaining unused hair into a soft ponytail with a hairband to keep hair out of the way…
  4. Dampen the hair with a spray bottle {if needed} to help control flyaways…
  5. Add some mousse or pomade to the pullback strands to help add a little grit.  {This will better help the hair stay in place when you create the square knot.}
  6. Take both strands and pull them to the back of the head, and form the first part of a knot just like tying your shoe…
  7. Now repeat the same step again to create the square knot…
  8. Holding the hair ends in place, gently add bobby pins to each “tail” right where they come out of the knot {in an up-and-in motion, to create a more secure pin}…
  9. Then add hairspray to secure any remaining flyways and to help hold the knot shape.
Enjoy!

Happy Hairdoing!

  1. This is a nice quick and easy do to add to my bag of tricks! Thanks! However … coming from an Eagle Scout who taught Pioneering Merit Badge … that’s not a square knot … 🙁 It’s a granny knot. Remember … right over left, left over right! 🙂

  2. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. This was hilarious! Your daughter was smiling for the whole thing, don’t her jaws start hurting? 🙂

  4. Haha that was hilarious! Especially when he ate the hair product! Who knows what is in that stuff! He did way better than what my dad would do! When mum went away, he used to take us to mum’s friends house before school, so she could do our hair!

  5. I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!!! YOU MAKE EVERYTHING LOOK SO EASY AND EXPLAIN EVERYTHING SO WELL!!!

    ALSO, YOUR DAUGHTERS ARE DOLLS!!!

    WISH ME LUCK WITH DOING YOUR “DO’S!!!!” 80}

  6. Adorable video…had me smiling and laughing the whole time. Kuddos to dad!!! My husband loves the daddy-do section since he has to help do hair on the weekends when he is home in the mornings. He would love to see more hair dos with man stuff like square knots in them 🙂

  7. I was laughing so hard at the “tasting of the frosting” also! Great job dad! Mindy, I think it would be a cute idea if you redid all of the daddy do’s making hubby do them all. I think that would show daddys that they can actually do it. Or, have him attempt all of the future daddy do’s. Anyway, I know he was an accidental stand-in but I love the idea of the daddy doing the daddy do. Keep the videos coming!

  8. I love a daddy who does hair. My daughter loves it when her dad does a daddy-do! That was hysterical when he tasted the pomade!

  9. Oh my gosh this video was soooo funny and a very cute hair style. I almost lost it when dad ate the hair product…. I was on the verge of tears from laughing so hard. Great job and I really like the daddy do idea 🙂
