Video Hairstyles: Triple-Twist Ponytail

I wanted to provide a video tutorial for one of the first hairstyles I ever put on this website, because I received several requests from followers to do so.

The 2008 hairstyle was called Triple-Twist Ponytail (click to view photos/instructions)…

Items Needed: Brush, comb, 2 rubber bands, and hairspray.

Time Requirement: 3-5 minutes.

Skill Level: Easy

What I love about this hairstyle is that it can be done so quickly, yet it looks fairly complex! Even dad’s can do this since it does not involve any braiding! (The thickness of the ponytail will vary based on how thick or thin your daughter’s hair may be. You may find that to change up this style a bit, you could use two ponytails instead of one.)

Funny enough, I decided to turn the camera on my husband during the filming of this hairstyle… so there is a brief cameo by my dear hubby a few seconds into the video.  He wasn’t too happy with me, but I thought you should all get to meet him!  (He’s getting a kick out of the YouTube comments this video gets.)  Here is the video tutorial…

Happy Hairdoing!

  1. what is that little tool you use to keep the elastics together? p.s.your hairstyles are amazing!!!!!!!!!!! 😀

    1. It came in a package with the Goody hair elastics. I have contacted Goody and they do not make them anymore… I keep pestering them about it, because those rings seriously save me so much time hunting for bands!

  2. I was checking out some of your older videos, and I came across this one and I was wondering how many twists can you do in one ponytail?

P.S. i love your youtube channel and all of your videos!!

  3. Hi im 13 and love the site i do them on my sisters all the time and they love them and i was wondering if you could make a section about church hair stiles cuz i do the same ones every week and like them but would like a little bit more :^)

  4. i love your websites but why havent you posted any new hair styles?
i hate when my mom does my hair because it always turns out really horrible. please post more self do’s! thanks!

  5. I love this hairstyle. It’s just so fast and easy to do, and also really pretty. I usually wear it to the side as it’s more teen-like (I’m 15).

I really enjoy your website because I’ve learned how to do my hair differently (Or how to tame my hair differently – I don’t like to wear it completely loose; it’s too messy) without turning it into something boring.

I really appreciate your work, and I hope you’ll keep it going for much longer.

(I’m sorry for any grammar mistakes. I’m not a native speaker of English.)

  6. LOVE this and oh so easy, Now that I am back to work- getting my daughters ready and out the door by 7:30 is tough. I usually do 20+ minute hair styles, but now I am going to start doing this one- THANKS!!

  7. I tried this one time and I just couldn’t do it! I feel lonely because everyone else can wear their hair in perfect hairstyles! But me , NO! ANd how do you send pictures of hairstyles? I got one that I can do on my own! And , you know how you said that your DD,s hair has a lot? Mne does to!

  8. Hi! Im 10 and I really try to do all of these really cute haiestyles and I never seem to get them right. My mom hates doing hair and my dad doesn’t know what a hair tie is! I need help! Do you think you can do a very simple but very complicated (but cute) looking hairstyle that I could do on my own? THANKS!!

  9. Hi! I’m 11 and I have to do my own hair because mom goes to work very early and dad can’t tie a ponytail if his life depended on it. Whenever I try this hairstyle it ends up loking like one big twist. What am I doing wrong? Otherwise all of the other hairstyles are very cute. Thanks!!

  10. Oh my goodness!!! You are SO right, it does look harder than it really is. I have a neighbor girl who has looong straight blonde hair which is perfect for your styles. I, however have short, frizzy, curly, brown hair, unperfect for all your styles. Oh well, I’m more of an attractive accesorie type girl, and want to be a hairstylist some day, thanks so much for the time you put into helping us with the styles. God Bless You.

  11. I love your blog and love that you put the video tutorial with each post. It makes it so much easier than trying to figure out a hairstyle with just photos and written directions! I am dying to know where you got your top – the strappy one. It is adorable!

  12. I am eleven and soon to be twelve and I was wondering if you could think of a hairstyle for my birthday.I have hair that goes to the bottom of shoulder blade.I love your hairstyles.
    I am SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. This is one of my
go-to-do’s!! If we are running late, this is done in a snap and NO one believes me when I tell them that it’s easy!!

  14. i love your site. love. i’ve been following for a few years now (i can’t believe it’s been that long!) and my daughter has gorgeous hair but she hates it when i touch it! these videos and the pictures of your girls lets her see that other girls get their hair done by their moms and she’s willing to try it. this style is right up my alley! she’ll love it and it’s so quick and easy!
thank you, i tell everyone about your site all the time! love it!
