Video Tutorial: Wrap-Around French Braid

In January 2009, I posted a hairdo described as Wrap-Around French Braid. (It would more appropriately be named a Wrap-Around Halfsie-French “Pop-Out” into a Side Pony, but we would lose people at halfsie!) A photo of the completed hairdo is seen here…

Wrap-Around French Braid

I have had a few readers ask for a video tutorial to show exactly how this hairdo is done. (Just like in French Braiding, sometimes it is better to see it done, rather than try and follow a picture tutorial.) Having just received my iFlip video camera back from a good friend, I decided to show you exactly how to create this beautiful hairdo…

Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, 1 hair elastic, hairspray and accessory {if desired}.

Time Requirement: 3-5 minutes

Skill Level: Medium

Wrap-Around French Braid

Step-By-Step Instructions:

  1. Start with wet hair and comb out all the lumps, bumps and tangles.  I parted the hair on the left.
  2. On the same side as your part, pick up a small section of hair.
  3. Divide section into three small sections like you are going to start a French Braid.
  4. Start braiding into a french braid, ONLY adding in hair along the bottom.  (Closest to ear and neck)
  5. Continue to braid around the head and low along the baseline of the hair.
  6. When you have braided all the way around, secure your ponytail with an elastic.  (Should be at the opposite ear from where you started.
  7. Spritz with a little hair spray if desired.
  8. Add bow or flower for added cuteness!

Happy Hairdoing!

  9. Hi, i love this hairstyle i used it but instead of doing a french braid i used one of the twists, with two parts, another idea is to use a fishtale baid into side ponytail. Hope that helped:)
    Thanks a bunch 🙂

  10. I absolutely loved trying this style on my little girl! She’s only two and it works perfectly to keep her hair in. Thanks so much for a new spin on braids!

  11. Thank you so much for your website! I suck at doing hair, but thanks to your video was able to figure out how to my daughter’s hair cute (she’s 2). I braided her hair once, and it turned into a disaster. I will call it a success this time and will come back often for help.

I’ve done this braid to both of my 4 year olds and I’ve done it on myself and let me tell you everyone loves it…I’ve also done a bunch of other hair styles from you and everyone asks how i came up with it and i seen them straight to your site..you’re hair styles are cute and pretty easy to do and i absolutely love them please think of more lol

  15. Hi! I really love your videos. I try to do as many as your hairstyles as possible. Some of them I really love, but mu hair is thick and curly so sadly, I can’t do them all. I even made my own topsy tail tool after you posted the video on how to make one. I use it all the time for the “Twist-back Flip under.” Me and my friends all love your videos and at our sleepovers we style each others hair!It is so much fun! So i just wanted to say thank you, and to keep on doing what your doing because your an amazing hairdresser.

  17. Hi, I love your tutorials! I don’t have a daughter so I do these styles on myself. The wrap around french braid is beautiful! I do it but I turn the ponytail into a messy bun to make it mature and grown up. Thanks so much for the excellent videos!

  18. I found this style on your website and did it on my daughter. She said she had so many compliments at school. It really wasn’t difficult and was VERY cute.

  19. Thanks a lot. I used to think my hair was impossible to use. It still hurts a lot but after ten years of living trying to style it your website helped a lot.
