Updo Hairstyle: Pretzel-Twist Messy Bun

October 13, 2008

Items Needed: 2 rubber bands, comb, brush, and a few bobby pins.

Time Required: 3-5 minutes.

Skill Level: Easy

Start by doing a zig-zag part. If you don’t know what this is, please see “Tips & Tricks #6″.

Pull hair back into a tight ponytail at nape of neck…

Part hair in ponytail into two sections…

Twist both sections into tight twists…

Have daughter hold twists as you do them.

Twist sections of hair so tight that they just naturally roll in on themselves. You sort of take the twist, make a loop, and bring them together…

Put a rubber band around the whole thing until you can secure the hair.

If your daughter has longer hair and you don’t like big long stragglies out the end, you can add bobby pins to lift the hair up higher onto the head.

Rat hair to add volume and fluff, or straighten it with a straightener and then rat…

Add a ribbon or bow…

Happy Hairdoing!

  3. I am a nurse with thick hair that reaches around my shoulder blades and constantly struggle to find ways to do my hair for work. I did this style for my shift tonight and everyone asked me how I did it, it looked great and stayed put all night!

Im also very hair challenged with 3 small girls with long hair. Since discovering your blog I have tried many of the hairstyles and the biggest downfall seems to be everyone asking me how I did them lol.

I would love to see more updos :)

  4. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this one!! Your girls are simply stunning to begin with but I think this is my favorite style as it’s so simple to do yet so pretty and complicated looking! Thanks!!
