This hairstyle is even perfect for adding different combinations to change up the look.  Try reverse fishtails with a pancaked twist for a soft romantic look.To see your own photo recreations of this style featured in our app, feel free to tag your photos on IG with: #CGHMixedBraidCombo

Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, bobby pins, small hair elastics, hairspray {if desired}.

Time Requirement: 8-10 minutes

Skill Level: Medium

Step-By-Step Instructions:

  1. Start by parting your hair on top.
  2. Next pick up a small section of hair from the front and begin a dutch fishtail braid.
  3. You are going to add in new hair until you reach the back of your ear, and then continue a regular reverse fishtail down to the bottom.
  4. Go back and pancake your braid and secure with a small elastic.
  5. Repeat steps 3 & 4 on the other side.
  6. Now we are going to create a twist braid in the back.  Pick up a section of hair at your crown and divide into two pieces.
  7. Twist both sections to the right, then twist them together to the left.
  8. Just like a french braid, add new hair to your individual twists now.  Twist individual pieces to the right and then twist them together to the left.
  9. After three french twists, stop adding in new hair and twist the rest of the way down.  Go back and pancake your twist and secure with an elastic.
  10. Pick up the smaller fishtail braid, wrap it backward.  Once you have it resting where you like it, secure with a bobby pin.
  11. Wrap the tail of your pinned braid around your finger and pin down.
  12. Pick up your second fishtail braid, wrap it backward.  Make sure it covers the pins from your first braid and rest above the first braid.  Secure with bobby pins.
  13. Again, wrap the ends of your fishtail braid around your finger, tuck under the edge of your braid and pin down.
  14. Finish with hairspray {if desired}.
