Boho Side Braids

Summer time means festivals!  Festivals are so much fun!  I love the food, music, art and bringing out my boho side!  Not all of us live in Cali for Coachella, but we can still rock the best boho hairstyles!

Yes, Coachella gives us good inspiration, but it isn’t the only summer festival around!  There is just something about wearing fairy makeup, bohemian dresses and simple loose braids that we love.  This hairstyle is perfect to add to your boho collection.  I love that these braids are for any age from little girls to teens to moms!To see your own photo recreations of this style featured in our app, feel free to tag your photos on IG with: #CGHBohoSideBraids

Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, hair elastics, fun bohemian accessories, hairspray {if desired}.

Time Requirement: 3-5 minutes

Skill Level: Easy

Step-By-Step Instructions:

  1. Start by parting the hair down the center.
  2. At the back of the part near the crown of the head, pick up a very small section of hair on one side of the part.
  3. Begin creating a dutch lace braid.  This is where you cross the bottom strand under the middle strand.  Now cross the top strand under the middle strand.  Keep alternating crossing under the middle strand only now you will pick up a small section of new hair and add it to the top strand before you cross under the middle.  We are only adding new hair to the top strand.  This technique is the “lace” part of the braid.
  4. You will be braiding from the back moving toward the front on a diagonal.  Shape your braid so that it looks kind of like one side of a heart. (see images above or video for more details)
  5. Once you have added all the new hair from the top, pic up a new piece of hair from the back of the part where you started your braid.  Add it to the bottom strand before you cross under and then finish with a regular 3 strand braid to the bottom of the hair.  This will help hold the shape we want for this look.
  6. Now pick up all of the hair on the same said as your braid (including your braid) and divide into 3 sections.  Your braid will start with the middle section.
  7. Create a regular 3-strand braid all the way down the hair.
  8. Go back and pancake the outside edges of your braid to give it a full\boho look.   Secure with a small elastic at the end of your braid.
  9. Repeat steps 3-8 on the other side of your head.
  10. Finish with leather head piece or flower crown {if desired}.
