Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, hair elastics, ribbon {if desired}, hairspray {if desired}.

Time Requirement: 3-5 minutes

Skill Level: Medium

Step-By-Step Instructions:

  1. Pick up a section of hair at the crown of the head.  Pull back and secure with a small elastic.  Tug on the top to create volume.  (If needed:  add dry shampoo and/or teasing at the crown to add volume)
  2. Take a small piece from your ponytail and wrap it around the elastic until you can’t see the elastic.  Secure with bobby pine or use your topsy tail tool to pull thru the ponytail.
  3. Now begin a fishtail braid with your ponytail.  You want to braid with a little bit larger pieces than normal.  This will give you a bigger/chunky look.  Pancake the edges of your braid to create fullness.  Secure with a small elastic.
  4. Pull the remainder of your hair back into a low ponytail.  Lay the fishtail on top and secure with an elastic.
  5. Go back and pull on the hair going back into your ponytail to create softness and volume.  You want to have a more romantic, messy look.
  6. At this point you can either take another small piece from your ponytail and wrap around your elastic to hide or tie a ribbon as shown above.
  7. Finish with hairspray {if desired}.
