Boho Lace Tieback | Bohemian Chic Hairstyles

This week’s hairstyle uses a similar technique as our Lace Braided Heart, only our purpose here is to highlight the front parting of the hair and not so much the back.

That is why we show you today how to create a Boho Lace Tieback, a bohemian chic and hippie-ish hairstyle that is sure to get you compliments!

The trick is to get your Lace Braid started, since you are using such a micro strand to begin with, but once you have it, this braid is really a cinch!

We love how boho {or bohemian} this look gives us, very much a hippie vibe without overdoing it.

As you can see, this hairstyle uses the unique combination of Lace Braids, Simple Braids, and a Tieback to complete the look. You can try mixing things up a bit by trying a side part, using fishtail braids, or any other way to spice up a combo.

This hairstyle combination can work on long, medium, or short hair, and is perfect for any occasion. It holds up well in sports {minus the accessory} and can be used as a wedding or communion hairstyle.

My girls use this in sports and dance, by pulling all the hair up into a ponytail instead of a tieback, with the Lace Braided portion keeping the hair out of their faces.

The style can also be worn with curly, wavy, or straight hair, and can be accessorized in any number of ways.

Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 1-2 small hair elastics, 1 alligator clip, hairspray and accessory {if desired}.

Time Requirement: 4-5 minutes

Skill Level: Medium

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. {Optional Step} Begin with a base of soft curls or waves…
  2. Begin by parting your hair down the middle of your head…
  3. Move your hands up the part line about 3 inches from the forehead, and pick up a tiny strand of hair…
  4. Divide this section into 3 tiny, even strands and begin a simple braid stitch…
  5. After your first simple stitch, begin to add hair only into the strand on side closest to the part line {this creates a Lace Braid}…
  6. Continue to braid along the part, towards your face, until you reach your forehead, and then turn the braid so that it follows your hairline down towards your ear…
  7. Once you turn the braid, you will then be adding hair into the braid from the front, your forehead side…
  8. Continue braiding until you are about 2-3 inches above your ear.
  9. Stop adding in hair, and continue braiding the remaining strand using a simple braid…
  10. Secure the braid with an elastic, and clip this braid back out of the way using an alligator clip…
  11. Repeat Steps #2-8 on the other side of the head…
  12. When you are finished with the second braid, wrap both braids of hair around to the back/middle of the head, and secure together with an elastic…
  13. Add hairspray or accessory {if desired}.

  1. Hi Mindy. I love this hair style. If I am not to late can you please tell me how you got those pretty curls and where you got that cute bow?

  2. Hi in case you guys some times check the website, i was woundering if you ever thought of doing an atheletic tab of cute hairstyles that stay in. i am a horseback ride and a sprinter, i find it is very hard to find a cute hair that fits under a helment or that stay out of my face as i’m running or riding. the running braid was cute and work great at the (running) track but felt weird under my helment. please consider this.
    thank,
    Hanna

  3. Mindy, where do you get your hair elastics?
Love this hairstyle! I tried it on my mom who never puts her hair in anything other than a bun or ponytail. She loved it! thank you so much, keep up the good work!

    1. I searched for those elastics for like two years and then I gave up. But last summer we had this loom rubber band hype (Here in germany) and I just bought a bunch of brown loom elastics. They worked great and I still have one package

  4. this hair style is awesome. could you please do some more diy’s because i’m the only one in my family that can do hairstyles and i just get left with a plain ponytails. thanks 🙂

    1. Larabob your right this hairstyle is awesome!! I am the only one that can do hairstyles too! I can braid my own hair and do buns and ponytails but like you I do get stuck with things like that and am really sick of wearing my hair the same way every single day.
