Boho Chic Feather Headdress

We are part way through our summer, and I thought it would be fun to share a fun craft to beat those summer blues. My girls love crafting, and creating with their hands, and this Boho Chic Feather Headdress is super easy to make, and fun for dress up, and even a photo shoot. We did this craft at my daughter’s Tribal BoHo Chic TeePee Birthday Party last month, and all the kids LOVED making their own!Feather Headdress | CGH LifesytleAll you need are a handful of simple craft items that you may even have around the house, but if not, any local craft store or Amazon will have them.Boho Headdress | CGH LifestyleSupplies:

  • scissors
  • glue gun
  • assorted feathers
  • yarn
  • felt

How to make the feather headdress:

  1. Starting with the felt, cut a strip along the longest end, 1-1.5 inches wide, that will be your base for the headdress.
  2. Lay down the feathers, with shortest in front, put little glue dabs on top, then lay taller feathers on top of that.Summer craft | CGH Lifestyle
  3. Line glue all up and down the top of the feathers, and create a smaller strip of felt to sandwich the feathers in with even more glue. Make sure the feathers don’t go below the felt on the bottom. This backside part won’t show, so it doesn’t matter too much what it looks like.Crafting with kids | CGH Lifestyle
  4. With 3 strands of yarn, tie them in a knot at the top, and braid about 2 feet long.
  5. Once the braid is complete, cut it in half, with knots at all 4 ends.
  6. Glue braids on the sides of the felt.Tribal Headdress | CGH Lifestyle
  7. Tie on your headdress, and go play!

    1. I’d love to see it if you make one! Tag me on instagram @capturingjoyblog so I can check it out!

  2. Making my daughters race a costume or party theme is insensitive and offensive to native Americans.
I know. I realize you didn’t pick the costume to be offensive. I’m not saying you’re a bad person–I’m just saying that these costumes are really hurtful to Native peoples, because they turn them into fantasy creatures based on harmful stereotypes.

    1. I’m so sorry it’s hurtful, not meaning to be at all. I see it as an honor that they are loved enough to replicate. We all see things differently.

    1. Yay, so happy to hear you made it! If you shared on Instagram, tag me at @capturingjoyblog so I can see!
