Spring Cleaning Hacks

The sun is out, the weather is getting warmer, and it’s time for a little spring cleaning! Clearing out the clutter is a great way to refresh your home and your mind. Organizing, throwing out, dusting and disinfecting is satisfying but it’s certainly no easy task, especially if you’re strapped for time. Here’s a few tips to streamline the process and eliminate the stress of traditional spring cleaning. Let’s get started!

1- Box and label everything: This is particularly handy when it comes to organizing your pantry or items in your children’s rooms. There’s nothing like throwing items into the pantry without thinking twice about it and by time you know it, you’re discovering items in the back from 2 years ago! Grab a few plastic bins from Walmart and some clear containers, and start labeling. Not only will it hold you accountable, it’ll also help you find items with ease. If your kids rooms are messy (which most are), separate the items into piles by theme. Grab a few long rectangular bins, and stick them under the bed so everything is out of sight (and they can be pulled out easily)!

2- Compartmentalize your drawers: There is nothing worse than a jammed silverware drawer! Instead of throwing everything into a drawer, try purchasing a few of these drawer organizers. They’ll prevent objects from sticking out and keep everything organized.

3- Do a little color coding: Yup, we’re back to some good old fashioned color coding! There’s a variety of ways you can use color coding — let’s use legos as an example. Grab a few bins, or a box that has multiple drawer pull outs. Separate the legos by color, and voila! It’s genius.

4- Hooks and hangers are your best friends: Hangers can be used for much more than just clothes! It’s a great way to organize shoes, purses, scarves, or whatever your heart desires. Check out this article to get some ideas.

5- Stock up on clear jars: Clear jars are a great resource for anything in your house. Markers, cookies, pennies, you name it! If you decide to grab some that are a darker color, make sure to label them so you don’t forget which drawer is which.

6- Grab those trash bags: You knew this one was coming! Before you start throwing things into bins and baskets, ask yourself with each item you pick up — “do I really need this?” When you’ve been cleaning for awhile, it’s hard not to start throwing stuff in bins just for times sake. But being diligent in the moment and throwing out items straight away will avoid having to clean again in the future. 7
