Side Ponytail Combo | Teen Hairstyles

July 21, 2011

Here is a teen hairstyle that we uploaded to YouTube two months ago, but had not yet posted it here! My #2 daughter loves this style and does it all the time on herself {single or double ponytails}!

For added texture, you can Double French Braid the hair the day before and use the curls for 2nd Day ‘Do before completing this style {as I did in the photo}. In the tutorial, the hair was straight.

This hairstyle uses a simple side ponytial, with a partial Fishtail Braid. I also show how to use a hair-wrap around the hairbands, which really makes the style look darling {I only did one in the video, but would recommend wrapping both elastics}! Enjoy!

Items Needed:
Rat-tail comb, two hairbands, Topsy Tail tool {if desired}, hairspray {if desired}.

Time Requirement: 5 minutes

Skill Level: Medium

Happy Hairdoing!

Curly Hairstyles: Beachy Curls

December 31, 2010

By popular request, I have included another curled hairstyle that I use on my girls (and often on me as well). This is a beachy-curled look that is very popular right now with teenagers and models… which I am non-suprisingly calling “Beachy Curls”.

There are many ways to get this curled look ( for example: Curlformers, Strawlers, heat, or rag curls, etc).  In this tutorial, I show how to do it quickly with a curling iron.

Due to time constraints on the video file size, I had already curled much of the hair and just left a small section undone for you to see exactly how it is that I get these curls.  (As always, please remember to use a good heat protectant whenever you use an iron! I used Suave’s Sleek Heat Protection Spray right before we filmed this. It simply helps protect the hair from damage and conditions it as well.)

Items Needed: Curling iron, heat protectant, hairspray (if deisired), and accessories (if desired).

Time Requirement:  15+ minutes, depending on hair.

Cute Hairstyles | Flat-Iron Waves

December 03, 2010

I have received quite a few requests for more short hairstyles, particularly ones that I have worn in previous tutorials. Even more, followers are looking for more styles they can do on themselves.

One hairstyle that I have been doing on myself quite a bit lately consists of Flat-Iron Waves, which add nice volume to the hair. (The waves are much more subtle than what you will find in the second-day hairstyle coming from Double French Braids.) Plus, this wave style can be used on pretty much any hair length.

Here are a few photos of the Flat-Iron Waves (please forgive my squinting as the sun was in my eyes!)…

Back ViewFlat-Iron Waves (Back)

The use of the flat iron is similar to what was done in our tutorial for Flat-Iron Curls except that the wave look is created by a rocking of the wrist as you glide down the hair.  Explained further, it is an alternating (up and down) twisting of the iron that creates the wavy style.

Feel free to accessorize this style as you wish, with headbands, clips, hats, or even a French-Front Braid!

Items Needed:  Brush, flat-iron, hairspray, and heat protectant (always be sure to use this when using an iron or any other kind of heat).

Time Requirement:  5-10 minutes

Skill Level: Easy

Hippy Braided Headband | 70s Hairstyles

June 21, 2010

I am getting more and more hairstyle requests for tween and teen looks that can be done in under five minutes. This style is very simple, and gets tons of compliments. It uses a simple braided headband, which can be placed across the forehead like a leather strap or beaded band that many celebrities are now using. (If your daughter has bangs, you can bring the same braid up over the bangs across the front and back under for another great-looking headband accent.)

To get our texture, I braided the hair the day before. In our case, this is one of many “2nd-Day” hairstyles that you can create from the Double French Braids with Messy Flips. I also have a French Braid tutorial for this same prestyle in my YouTube library above.

Items Needed: Two small bobby pins.

Time Requirement: 3-5 minutes

Skill Level: Easy

If you like it, let me know! Happy Hairdoing!

Subtle Twist Back | Daddy Do

March 20, 2009

This hairdo is as easy as they come. What a great hairstyle for those mornings you have 3-5 minutes to be out the door.

This one isn’t anything original, but is a great one to have in your repertoire.

Hairstyles for Girls

Items Needed: Brush, comb, hairspray, 1 rubber band, and accessories.

Time Requirement: 2-3 minutes.

Skill Level: Easy

Start by brushing the hair. My dd had her hair braided the day before so her hair was pretty wavy, but straight or super curly hair would work too.

Subtle Twistback #1

Starting right next to and slightly behind the ear, begin to twist it back…

Subtle Twistback #2

When you get the whole strand of hair twisted, have your dd hold it, then repeat on the other side. Combine ends together on the back of head… and where they meet, add a rubber band to secure…

Subtle Twistback #3

Add a ribbon or flower for bling. Easy and fast.
