Braided-Over Ponytail | Cute Hairstyles

About a month ago, a loyal follower emailed me a photo of a braided hairstyle , asking if I could replicate it and possibly do a tutorial. Never having seen it before, I was fascinated with how it looked and spent an hour or so trying to recreate it.
I did figure it out although the braid did take some practice to get the stranding correct, but here is what the hair style looks like…

When I first posted the video on YouTube, a viewer commented that he had seen this braid style used on horse tails in horse competitions, etc. I can only describe this style as a Fishtail Braid that uses three strands (as in a typical braid) rather than two.
I think that this is a beautiful braid… good enough to not only be worn on horse tails! I coupled the style with the Hair-Wrapped Ponytail as a starting point. You could even opposing-curl strands of the remaining ponytail hair to add additional flair to the style! My #2 daugther was stopped time and time again in the hall at church this past Sunday by moms trying to figure out exactly how this hairstyle was done.
Personally, I think that the braid looks more amazing by using even smaller strands from the back.
Items Needed: Rat-tail comb, water bottle, and 2 ponytail holders.
Time Requirement: 10-15 minutes
Skill Level: Hard

Glee Hairstyles: Quinn Fabray Tieback

So during my summer, during what little free time I had, I became hooked on Fox’s summer repeat of the ”Glee” musical TV series. Although the dramatic content is not suitable for children, I have shown my girls a few of the awesome musical numbers and mashups from albums that we all grew up with!
If you watch the series, you will notice that there are quite a few fun braided hairstyles worn by the girls. In my opinion, Dianna Agron’s character Quinn Fabray has the most beautiful styles…
The series shows quite a few messy (loose) braid styles, and Quinn regularly sports a French Front as seen in the above photo. This hairstyle is perfect for teens/tweens, moms, and little girls. You will also notice that hairstyles like this are extremely popular right now, so I can guarantee that you will receive tons of compliments.
Items Needed: Rat-tail comb, spray bottle, one hairband, hairspray, (accessory if desired).
Time Requirement: 3-5 minutes.
Skill Level: Easy
The particular hairstyle I show below is a “double variation” of the style seen in Quinn’s photo above, with a tieback to finish it off. If you choose to vary the style a bit for another day, feel free to try a Dutch Braid version!

A month or so ago we posted the Lauren Conrad French Front hairstyle video tutorial. Since that time, many of our followers have asked that I provide a tutorial for this same hairdo, but in reverse (outtie) or Dutch braiding style…
Items Needed: Spray bottle, rat-tail comb, 1 clear elastic band.
Time Requirement: 3-5 minutes
Skill Level: Easy
You can view this video below. Keep in mind, you can finish this hairstyle any number of ways. You can tuck the braid under a down ‘do, like often seen, or you can wrap the braid into a fun ponytail (with accessories). This is completely up to you. It is a hairstyle that can be used on girls of all ages, moms included!
