Dutch Lace Braided Headband | Braid Hairstyles

March 17, 2013

Be sure to subscribe to our twins’ new YouTube channel, BrooklynAndBailey! They uploaded their very first video upload today and want to know what you think!

* ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ *

Many people have recently been asking for more Shorty Do hairstyles…

Well, CGH#4 wanted to film a tutorial yesterday so we sat down and discussed some ideas together. {She usually isn’t one to volunteer, so I jumped all over it!} Since she has shorter hair, she really enjoys braided headbands… styles that she can wear with her short hair to keep the hair out of her face!

Lace Braid Headband | Cute Girls Hairstyles

Since we have been loving Lace Braids lately, we thought it would be a great idea to show you how do to a Lace Braided Headband!

Lace Braid Headband | Cute Girls Hairstyles

This braid is different from a traditional braided headband, because you pull the hair strands only from one side… which creates a more distinct stranding effect from the forehead into the headband.

Lace Braid Headband | Cute Girls Hairstyles

We think this hairstyle turned out super cute, and lasted very well throughout the day!

Lace Braid Headband | Cute Girls Hairstyles

As a base, you can leave the hair straight, if you want.  I used a NuMe reverse curling wand to add texture before completing the braid. We have a NuMe coupon code CUTEHAIR {all one word and all CAPS} that will give you $110 off any regular styling wand until May 1, 2013, if you want one. That is a HUGE discount, and fans are saying that some items are already out of stock!  I have been told by the company that it will have them re-stocked by the end of this month.

Thanks, and enjoy!

Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, 1 small hair elastic, 1 hair band, 2 bobby pins, hairspray and curling wand {if desired}.

Time Requirement: 3-5 minutes

Skill Level: Medium

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Part the hair, using the rat-tail comb, from ear to ear across the top of the head…
  2. Secure the back half of the hair with a hairband to keep it out of the way for now…
  3. Now begin a Dutch braid near the left ear. As you go along, try to keep the braid as close to the part line as possible, away from the front of the face…
  4. Please be sure the you only add hair into the braid from the front, do not add hair into the hair from the back side of the head. This creates the lace/feather stranding effect from the forehead into the braid…
  5. Continue braiding, in this same fashion, up and over the head until you reach the other ear…
  6. At this point, you have two options to secure the braid. First, you may continue on by finishing a simple braid down the remaining hair, and secure with an elastic {good for younger girls}. Secondly, you may choose to us using 2 bobby pins, crossing them, to pin the remaining hair directly behind the right ear {recommended for older teens and women}.
  7. Now, simply release the back hair from the hairband, helping it to fall around the face and nicely frame this gorgeous braided headband.
  8. I prefer to pancake the braid, by tugging on the elbows of the braid, to flatten it and help the braid look more pronounced.  {You do not have to do this, but I LOVE how it looks!}
  9. Add hairspray to help control the flyways and baby hairs on the forehead.

If you enjoyed this hairstyle, please feel free to share it!

Happy Hairdoing!

I was wondering what happened to CGH4. I agree, her freckles are adorable! I am super excited for Brooklyn and Bailey, but unfortunately I don’t have a youtube account so I can’t subscribe. But I’ll still watch all their videos!

Beautiful. For some reason the simpler hairdos i do like a small braid by my face the more comments i get. This is a great hairstyle, my little sister has short hair as well so i’m always looking for great hairstyles for her.

I’m new to braiding and have completely taught myself using your tutorials. I also have identical twin girls that are almost 5 and they love the braided headband. You reference pulling a hair so that the braid is on top and I’m not quite sure what you mean? It’s not a regular french braid? If you could just give a little more explanation, I would be terribly grateful. Thank you again for all of your tutorials.

This braid is a Dutch lace braid. That means when braiding you pull the side strands under the middle strand, instead of pulling them over the middle strand. Hope that helps!

P.S. Mindy has a regular dutch braid tutorial on this site too. Watching it might help you understand better.

Hi! I love your website! I’m always waiting for a new tutorial, and I request my mom to do them on me. I’m also two months younger then the twins, so I’m really going to watch their youtube channel! I love seeing the difference between your culture and mine (I live in the Netherlands) and it’s just so exciting! All those vlogs! I don’t have a youtube channel, so I van’t subscribe, but I’d really like to know what Brooklyn and Bailey want to do when they grow up, and if they have a University they would like to go to. I’m considering goign to America for University myself! Well, I’ll see your next tutorial!

Hi Estrella! Thanks for your thoughtful comment! I showed the girls your kind words and they want me to tell you “Hi” from the both of them! Brooklyn wants to be a dentist and a mommy while Bailey wants to be a fashion designer and a mommy. They are not sure which university yet, but are leaning towards BYU. Thanks for asking!

Well, tell them I said hi back! Thank you so much for your comment, you just made my day! I love the girls’ rooms, they’re really cool! I’m so jealous, my room is about to three metres and is really tiny, and I don’t even have a closet! I’m going to check out the books they recommended, because I’m also a huge fan of reading, and I noticed they have the ‘Wings’ book series by Aprilynne Pike, which is so cool, because I have them too! Are the girls on anything like twitter or facebook? I would really like to chat with them if they’d be okay with that. Or maybe you could email me their emails? It’s okay if you don’t want to share their email adresses, I completely understand. Well, you probably get my email address above, so if yes, couls you please email me?
Thank you, and I just wanted to say I completely love both hairdos! Brooklyn and Bailey did really well with the tutorial, I enjoyed it very much. The do looked really cool, and I used a gray flower at the end of the braid.
        Bye!

You call her hair short? It’s as long as mine and I’ve been growing it for more than 3 years now. I’m finally able to call it “long” and now you’ve ruined my pride. But I love the headband, tried it myself, doesn’t look so good and I’ve lost about 30 hairs doing it. I will keep trying.
CGH#4: you are quite adorable, I love the blue eyes (just like your mum’s) and I hope we will see you a bit more often in the upcoming videos.

    Love from Germany

(A.k.a the magic wand.) I wanted to buy the one with multiple heads but I didn’t know if it would work. Please answer me ASAP! I would love to get one soon. Thanks! And cute hairstyle! :)

Dutch lace braid is simply adorable. It seems to braided hair-band that looks distinctive from every angle. Some prefer to leave the hair strait after braid and some curl at the end.

For braids, layered hair is tough because of all of the loose ends and fly-aways throughout the braid… however, messy braids are very popular right now! I say rock it and own it! xoxo

Two of my little sisters have short hair and bangs they are growing out. I did a lace braid headband on the younger one (who couldn’t sit still long enough for me to do the dutch braid I still need to practice), and the dutch lace braid headband on the other. They turned out great and kept their bangs out of their faces. Thanks so much! I’m a big fan.

I just found your blog. I have a friend who constantly posts cool photos of braids she has done on her daughters hair. I have wanted to try different styles for ages on my foster daughter but haven’t been game. Thanks to your tutorials I have tried out a few styles tonight. She loves them! I especially love this one as she cut the front of her hair last year and it’s at the stage where it gets in her eyes all the time. Thank you so much!
