How to Create an Easy Twisted Updo Hairstyles

December 28, 2013

We have had quite a few requests for formal updos lately, with all the formal dances going on and the upcoming Prom season.

How to create an Easy Twisted UpdoToday we wanted to show you this variation of a twisted bun style that we first did over two years ago.

On Brooklyn, we used a curling wand to provide a base of soft curls before forming the undo. The purpose was to add a bit of texture to the hair, but this step is not necessary and can be eliminated to save time.

We think this hairstyle is very beautiful, and know that you will love it, too!

Enjoy!

Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, curling iron, heat protectant, 1 hair band, 10-12 bobby pins, 2+ Goody Spin Pins, hairspray {if desired}.

Time Requirement: 15-20 minutes

Skill Level: Medium

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Begin by parting the hair slightly to one side of middle.
  2. Now, divide hair straight down from that part to behind each ear {securing the rest of hair in the back out of the way}…
  3. Next, using a 1-inch curling iron, begin to curl the hair {using small sections curl the hair going toward the face}…
  4. After you curl each section, pin it using a bobby pin or alligator clip so that the curl doesn’t fall as the hair cools. ¬†Continue to curl all front sections towards face and pin.
  5. While the curls set, gather the rest in the back hair into a low ponytail, slightly off to one side of head…
  6. Twist the hair and wrap it around the ponytail, to create a nice low bun {using bobby pins, pin it against head}…
  7. Now let the curls down from one side of head {using a boar-bristle brush, very gently comb the curls together to create more of a wave than separated curls}…
  8. Pull the curls toward the bun, wrap them around it, and pin them in place {you want the curls to be soft and loose near the face}…
  9. Repeat Steps #7-8 on the other side of the head.
  10. Accessorize and add hairspray {as desired}.

Please feel free to leave me a comment below letting us know what you think of this updo!  As always, if you loved this hairstyle, please feel free to share it!
