Twisted Zig-Zag Hairdo | Updo Hairstyles

As promised a few weeks ago, we wanted to post an updo hairstyle for you… please keep in mind that this style really is a twist hairstyle, not a braid. {It sure does look like a braid, however!}

This hairdo utilizes a very simple twisting technique, adding in hair only as you reach the sides, thus creating a very elegant zig-zagging pattern in the hair.

To make this a more elegant hairstyle, you may choose to leave a small strand on either side, in the front of the ears, that can be curled. For a formal dance or wedding occasion you may also use micro twist-in flower accessories.

  1. Watch out for the “Zig-Zags” to fall out I am doing it on myself and one of the big pieces (my first one) fell out because I wasn’t doing them tight enough! Do them tight!

  2. Instead of saying “I’m going to Dutch Braid it” you should say “I’m going to Dutch it” lol. Can you post a video of a braid that I can do by myself. My mom doesn’t exactly have time to do my hair so I have to do it myself. (and I don’t have any little sister) I am so interested in hair doing. Thanks- probably your biggest commenter, Hannah

  3. ok, SO, I’ve been trying this for a couple of days cause I want to do it on my 9 yr old’s hair for easter, some reason I always seem to get the twists too far apart, they just don’t lay very close…what am I doing wrong?

  4. Mindy – This is your sister here. Just wanted to thank you for the awesome updos. I used another one for Fanni’s Festival today and it worked out perfectly. You’re videos are really awesome. Good job Cindy Lou.

  6. Hey Mindy!! Welcome back!
    i’m so happy to tell you that i was able to do this hairstyle on my daughter’s hair yesterday even though her hair is not as long as your daughter. my daughter’s hair was only up to her shoulders (a few inches below her shoulders). And i think it turned out pretty good. She got a lot of great comments from her classmates, schoolmates and even her teachers. they’re soo amazed!! i think this hairstyle that i have learned is the one that got the “MOST” comments….all good comments!! THANKS!!!
