Money Curls | With Guests Michelle Money and Laura Armstrong

I know you are going to love this week’s tutorial!

We are so happy to introduce two special guests for this video with Michelle Money (from ABC’s “The Bachelor” and runner up on “Bachelor Pad”) and her best friend/YouTube partner Laura Armstrong.

Michelle Money Curls | Cute Hairstyles

Many of you will recognize Michelle as a reality star, but did you also know that Michelle is a licensed cosmetologist?  She has even offered to do a new cut and color on me soon!  Laura is also a professional esthetician, and has a great knowledge of all things skin and beauty!

Some of you may be wondering how I came to know these two lovely ladies, so I will tell you the story…

I was sitting in my car waiting for gymnastics to end with CGH#4 and looked over to see Michelle waiting in the car next to me.  I mustered up enough courage to go over and strike up a conversation with her.  {She was so nice and did not seem as stand off-ish as many reality stars do!}  In the process of our conversation, Michelle mentioned that she has a YouTube channel called the MMandLShow.  I mentioned that my daughters and I also have a Youtube channel, and from there… the idea to do a collaboration video was born!

Of course I had to go home that night and check out their channel and quickly found myself watching many of their videos.  I was intrigued by many of their hair-curling techniques {especially for more adult looking curls} and have been using some their techniques for months now on my own hair!  I also loved many of their beauty secrets and one video in particular caught my eye {which I will detail in the next section}.

So I decided to meld the two together and film for you a beauty tip from the girls AND Michelle’s secret to her gorgeous curls for which she is widely known!

Beauty Tip: The PMD (Mersonal Microdermabrasion)

I’ll just be honest here… Michelle is as beautiful in real life as she is on TV, probably even more!   When I saw her in person, I immediately was curious how she obtained such fabulous skin!  So, of course my attention was peaked when I stumbled onto a video by both Laura and Michelle talking about their “magic skin secret”… the PMD Personal Microdermabrasion tool!

PMD | Personal Microdermabrasion

I was curious enough that I ended up finding one myself and trying it out!

I’m happy to report that I’ve now been using it for about 3 months and I absolutely LOVE it!!!  I simply incorporated it into my skin care regiment for once a week.  It really does leave my skin feeling sooooo smooth, soft, and less wrinkly!

For those of you not familiar with the PMD, it essentially buffs the top layer of dead skin away which then gives your skin a more soft, younger looking, and fresh look.  You will find that it helps control fine lines, wrinkles, big pores, and even some acne scarring.

Once I had tried it, and decided I loved it on my skin, I thought I would try it on my daughter’s skin. She is almost 13, and doesn’t have fine lines or wrinkles yet… but she is getting some of that normal teenage acne on her forehead and nose.  I thought I would just test it out on her as well to see if the PMD would help with the acne.  I was enthusiastically surprised when it did!  Not that it cleared up her acne 100%, but I can tell that it removed some of the worst dead skin and pore-clogging oils from the surface and allowed her acne cream to absorb better.

When using the PMD, make sure you view the accompanying instructional DVD first, to avoid damaging the skin.

I’m sure you will love this little secret! After I started telling people about how much I liked it, I was surprised to learn how many other people I know are already using it!  Hahahaha… I guess I am on the “slow boat ” with this one!  Other YouTubers like AndreasChoice, MissGlamorazzi, Elle Fowler’s AllThatGlitters21, etc, have all been talking about it already!

If you decide you want to try the PMD, as I have done, you can do so by visiting the PMD Website here.  If you enter the coupon code CuteGirlsHairstyles, then you can receive 25% off of your order!  Thank you, PMD!

Hair Technique: Michelle Money Curls

Michelle Money | Hair Curling Techniques

Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, flat iron, 1 inch or 1 ¼ inch curling iron {we used Hot Tools brand}, hairspray, dry shampoo, and pomade

Time Requirement: Approximately 30 minutes {depending on amount of hair}

Skill Level: Hard

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Begin with clean, dry hair and flat iron the hair beforehand {This is Michelle’s secret trick… even flat ironing the bottom 6 inches of hair will work}…
  2. Separate hair into small sections starting with hair closest to neck and working up. Take smaller sections of hair, about a 2 inch square, and spray with hair spray…
  3. Work hair around the barrel of curling iron, but leave out the last 2-3 inches of hair.  This will keep the ends looking flat a provide the more messy, “tousled look” that everyone wants right now…
  4. Continue to curl hair all over head in the same manner.  Your goal is to create curls that are less tight-spiral looking and more like a loose bend.  {This technique just provides a more natural, sophisticated look.}
  5. Use a flat iron to give bangs {if you have them} a quick pull and flip the ends out ever so slightly… you want your bangs to blend into the hair on the sides of the head.
  6. Use a dry-shampoo spray at the roots, and around your hairline.  This will prevent oil buildup over the next few days and will create texture and volume in the hair.
  7. Using pomade, run a little dab through your fingertips and then onto the ends of your hair to control flyways.
  8. Last but not least… LOVE your new look!

This hairstyle may take a little more time, depending on your length of hair, but it will create an amazing look that will last for several days!  Believe it or not, the curls will actually get better looking as the days go on.  In this video, Michelle’s were already three days old, and I wore this style for 4 days before washing again and it looked great!

Enjoy, and Happy Hairdoing!

  1. I love the Michele Money curls!!! But I was wondering if you could do another video with them and do the girl with the blonde hair curls. I thought they were soo pretty! Please do it, thanks.

  2. Your videos are easy to watch, great to learn new things. The brunette on the end seems like she was a little catty in her look she gave after you said “I use it once a week” ..could be the shape of her eyebrows, they seem to make her facial expressions too intense.

  3. Mindy,
My hair is really curly and frizzy. I’m in the 6th grade and get my curls from my dad. Problem #1: I am also a competitive swimmer. So now, my hair is even more damaged then I’m sure you can imagine. Problem #2: I have a white spot (I call it a birthmark) on my forehead and it has spread into my hair! AAAHHH!!! Anyways, I can’t pull the hair back into braids or a high, middle ponytail. (This birthmark spread into my bangs by the way)I’m very talented at styling my hair, it’s just that I’m afraid to have that white hair showing….What should I do???

Please respond or send me an e-mail!!

  4. Hi Mindy
I have been coming to this website everyday
since I found out about it. I love this site I do my sisters hair a lot before school in the morning and I attempt to do one of your hair styles. But I never get it as good as you see the topsy tail I dont have one and I can’t make one so this hairstyles are harder. I just wanted to give a big thanks for showing me all these coll hairstyles. THANKS

  5. Mindy I like your website, I look at it all the time, and use a lot of your ideas on my girls. I thought your hair looked good, but those tho girls were very immature and painful to listen to. You don’t need other people to help you out you have a great thing going.

  6. Michelle is pretty fantastic isn’t she? She is my Dad’s cousin and a wonderful hair stylist!! (and one of my favorite relatives :P) 😀 Thanks to you and her and Laura for a fantastic hairstyle 🙂

  7. Got it, thanks! I was looking for it where I started entering my personal information, and didn’t go any further than that because I wanted to make sure I got the discount. Thanks!

  8. I will try the PMD. I have acne like your daughter. I am at her age (I think). Thanks for the advice Mindy! You look SO much like your daughters when sitting down.

  9. I can’t believe how much your girls look like you. Beautiful. And i love how you got to have your hair done by someone else. How fun! Great look and I can’t wait to try it!

  10. Mindy,
At last, it’s your turn to get pampered…!! you look just like your daughters when they get their hair fix by you, it’s so cute !!
Thanks again for all the tutorials and for sharing Michelle and Laura’s youtube channel, they are so much fun to watch (ref. Michelle’s packing…awesome and almost missed her flight!)
    Rebecca

  11. I love your site! I have learned so much! I need HELP. My hair is thin and fine (yuck). I have a round face, which makes my choice of hair cuts difficult to choose. What would be the best way to choose a hair cut/style that would be flattering? Thanks so much.

  12. Do you workout? If so, how can you keep your hair looking good through a workout and then a shower after if you want to wear your curls for more than one day, but also want a good cardio workout and a shower?

  13. Do you workout? If so, how can you keep your hair looking good through a workout and then a shower after if you want to keep your next day curls?

  14. Thank you for the great video with so much good info! I’d love to know what kind of dry shampoo you ladies used. I’ve tried some that left my roots looking white (or gray – eek!)
