OK, girls, many of you have expressed that you LOVE our hairstyles, and would like to see some of the more complicated hairstyles done on one’s self.
Perhaps one of the more complex hairstyles is the Waterfall Braid, and so many YouTube viewers have left comments wanting to know how to do this if you do not have anyone to help you with it. What I love about this style is that it can be done on short hair (like mine) as well as long (my daughters).
I do this hairstyle on myself all the time. It is very possible to do this braid by yourself, although it may take some practice. Don’t be upset if it doesn’t turn out perfectly the first time… it may take a few tries. I decided to film a tutorial to show you exactly how I handle the stranding as well as the falling pieces in this waterfall braid.
Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, one hair elastic or 2 bobby pins, hairspray or accessory {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 2-3 minutes
Skill Level: Medium
I plan on posting in the near future more styles like these that you can do on yourself, so keep checking back! To view the tutorial, simply click below…
Happy Hairdoing!

It’s so funny that you posted this! The night you posted the video of you demonstrating this hairstyle on your daughter, I practiced on my own hair to see if I could get the hand movements down. It looked great! I’d love to see more things for Moms and daughters, too.
Great job! Now to see if my hands can do that. It is interesting to see the different ways that different people create their waterfall braids.
Mindy, do you know of some cute hairstyles for teens/tweens for the first day of school? I would love something where the hair is mostly down and that would look cute with a flower to accessorize. It would be awesome if you could post some hairstyles. Thanks!
Gorgeous! I am excited to try this!
I was wondering what this hairdo would look like if you did the braid inside out or if it would work at all. I’m only 13 years old and have no sisters so I do my hair on barbies but barbie heads are too small for this hairdo!
Hi! I’m 24, and I don’t have kids but I do your styles on myself all the time. And I love this one, but I never really know how to end it. Do you think maybe you could post some pictures of the back of your head after you do this, or maybe some ideas how to finish it off?
So cute! I would love to see more adult styles.
This is one of my fav. hair styles. I’m still working on it though…I don’t quite have it down yet.

this hair style is amazing and even looks pretty on a fifteen year old girl like myself. it took a while to understand at first, but once i got the hang of it, it’s much easier. i have ethnic hair, my mother is Caucasion (white) and my dad is African Amerrican and Italian, so sometimes my hair is too corse to do anything with at all. but this idea works great. [:

This is the best tutorial I’ve seen – it finally makes sense about dropping the second piece! And I’m so glad to see it done on short hair like mine! So cute!
love this but its kinda hard to do it on my own hair
I found this link on pinterest. I’ve never been good at doing my own hair(I’m 32). I watched this video twice and was able to do this! Thank you soo much, now I have a fun new hairstyle for fall.
I think the key for me was making sure that I start the braid off w/ the top most strand.
I think that this way of doing is quite beautiful than the other. thanks, kisses
hi
i am able to put waterfall french braid on right side only. i don’t know how to put it on left side. can you show me the left side video
How do I finish the braid? It looks silly with a ponytail holder on me? Can you post a picture or video of you finishing the braid? Love it!!! Thanks!!
This is really cool, but where did you get the bedding in the background. I have been looking for something like that FOREVER! thanks! lol
You are a genious I’m going to be a hairdresser

I love trying new hairstyles on my two daughters! Thanks for the great ideas! I tried the waterfall braid on my ten yr old this morning. It was easy and looked beautiful! Her hair is very fine, though, and the braid came loose the top. Any suggestions on securing it?
Mindy,
It would help a lot!
Thanks so much for posting this video! Do you think you can post more videos on self hairstyles? My mom is terrible at doing my hair!
Where did you buy the bed that is behind you in the video?
I still do not get it what’s so ever ): and weeks I’ve been trying it an trying it.
Sooooo cute
@Carol and @Shana I have the same bedding except the accent pillows are a little different. I got it at Walmart for $50. I would love to know how you end the braid. Bobby pins? … It would be nice if Mindy replied to the comments…
