Milkmaid Braid | Cute Summer Hairstyles

Ever since Brooklyn & Bailey uploaded their Spring/Summer Fashion video a few weeks ago, hundreds of our viewers have been requesting a tutorial for Brooklyn’s hair. I have to admit, she looked adorable in that video.

The hairstyle is quite simple, really, as she was wearing Milkmaid Braids. For today’s tutorial, we show you how to create Milkmaid Braids, as well as a few tricks and tips to get this perfect Summer look!

Since this hairstyle is one of Brooklyn’s favorites, she of course volunteered to be my model today. I swear every time I watch back these videos, I notice how my girls are looking more and more like me every day! {You should seriously watch them as they raid my closet pretty much daily!}

Also, congratulations to YouTube users ThisPersonsPage, DeeDoesMakeup, & Melinda Karkola, who were our Fin Fun Mermaid Tail winners!

Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 2 small hair elastics, 4-5 bobby pins, hairspray {if desired}.

Time Requirement: 3-5 minutes

Skill Level: Easy

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Begin by parting the hair straight down the middle of the head into two equal sections…
  2. Gather up one side of hair right behind the ear and begin a simple braid {you want the braid to go toward your face so it won’t bunch up later, and feel free to leave a few wispy strands of hair out in front to frame the face}…
  3. When you are finished with the simple braid, secure it with a hair elastic…
  4. Repeat Steps #2-3 on the other side of the head…
  5. Next, take one braid up and over the top of the head {leaving about 2 inches of hair showing between the forehead and the braid, as you do not want the braid lying directly onto the forehead}….
  6. Now take the 2nd braid and lay it over the head as well {positioning the braids so that they look the way you want them.
  7. Tuck each braid end under the braid on top of it, in order to hide them, securing them with bobby pins.
  8. Then then use a few bobby pins to safely secure the braids into place on top of the head.
  9. {Optional} Go back and gently pancake the braids by tugging on their elbows {this gives the hairstyle its bohemian, true milkmaid look}…
  10. Add hairspray or accent flowers {as desired}.

Please feel free to leave me a comment below letting us know what you think of these Milkmaid Braids! Perfect for Summer, wouldn’t you agree?

Happy Hairstyling!

Since today is Father’s Day, my daughters BrooklynAndBailey decided to upload a “Know Your Dad” Tag video below! It was fun for me to ask them questions about Shaun, film their responses, and then film Shaun giving his answers. How well do you think they did???

  1. I did this for homecoming last year and it was perfect! Not only did I get a ton of complements but it also kept my hair out of my face and kept it from getting frizzy (the dance was outside).

  2. Unfortunately, my hair seems too long for this hairstyle, or maybe I left the ends of the braid too long? Either way, it still pokes out. But that doesn’t matter- amazing hairstyle! Absolutely beautiful on Brooklyn, too ^-^

  3. Hi CGH, I am from the Philippines! And I really like the Milkmaid Braid. I could use the hairstyle on the day of my graduation!!

  4. I watched the tutorial and did the instructions but it did not turn out right. I think it is because my hair is too short to do this style so I had to do an alteration. What do you suggest the hair length of this style be so that I may know? Thank you, I really like this style, it is very nice

  5. I love this hairstyle. do you think it would be possible to do this just using fishtail braids instead? Thank you so much!

  6. I love this hairstyle and I had an idea. Do you think it would be possible to do this hairstyle using a fishtail braid? ☺️

  7. Can you do like tiny cornrows like you can have done on vacation and like show how to get them so small?

  8. Dear Mindy, I am now aloud to wear make-up, but don’t know how to use it. I know less is more, and you don’t want to put on to much make-up.
Could you ask your amazing twinnies if they could to a beginners make-up tutorial with mascara, eyeshadow, blush, and lipstick.

If you could grant my request that would be so fab! Thanks, Karina-Grace ♥

  9. Oh my God you guys are really awesome plz can you do simple hairstyles for high school girls more like ponytales :* <3

  10. I Loved this hairstyle , but I wouldn’t like to leave these pieces , because they are too long 🙂
But the idea is so nice , and the tutorial is so easy !

  11. I love all the hairstyles you do, I try to do it on my daughter, but she has a lot of hair and long, unfortunately some of the styles don’t go good on her.. but I still try.. 🙂
