Prim’s Braided Bun Updo | Mockingjay Hairstyles

This week’s hairstyle is inspired by Prim in the new Mockingjay movie of The Hunger Games movie franchise. We’ve watched Prim grow up, from a little girl with side braids, into a beautiful young woman who works to take care of injured patients in a District 13 hospital.

Prim’s braided hairstyles have matured right along with her, as we see in this tutorial.

We know that Prim needs her hair out of her face, and pinned back out of the way, so that she can care for her patients. The obviously best way to do this would be with an updo!, And, typical to Prim’s affinity for signature braids, just like her sister Katniss, she keeps braids as the base for her updo.

This is a very easy updo to create, and it gives a very sophisticated look especially when worn slicked back. You can achieve this look by wetting the hair down beforehand, or by adding in some pomade as you comb the hair before styling.

I can see this hairstyle being perfect for formal occasions, cheer, dance, ballet, and some sports.  To see your own photo recreations featured in our CGH App, feel free to tag your own photos of this hairstyle on IG with: #CGHPrimBuns

In another scene from the movie, Prim wears another version of a Dutch wrap-around braid, similar to what she wore in Catching Fire, but it was only seen from one angle and we couldn’t determine the exact look.

Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, 2 small hair elastics, 10-14 bobby pins, hairspray {if desired}.

Time Requirement: 5-7 minutes

Skill Level: Easy

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Begin by parting the hair straight down the middle of the head, all the way down {giving you two even sections of hair on either side}…
  2. Create a simple braid with your first section {you want the braid to begin right behind each ear and run straight down the back}…
  3. As you braid, be careful not to braid forward, over the shoulder and towards the front of the face or it will create an odd-looking bump in your bun as you twist up the braids later}..
  4. When you run out of hair, secure the braid with a small hair elastic…
  5. Now, take the very ends of the braid and begin to roll it up the rest of the braid {you want this to be as tight as possible, which will also help to hide the elastic}…
  6. When you reach to the top of the braid, you should be able to lay the bun against the head, giving the bun a braided cinnamon roll look…
  7. Next, carefully secure the bun to the head using a few bobby pins {you want to be sure the bun lays as close to the part line as possible, so that when both braids are pinned, they look like they are touching each other}…
  8. Repeat Steps #2-7 for the second braided bun…
  9. Shake the head to determine how firm the buns are secured, and, if necessary, add in a few more bobby pins…
  10. Add hairspray {if desired} to control flyaways.

The only problem with the 3rd book in this movie franchise, is that it is split into two movies! We can’t see how the directors and Lionsgate will portray the ending until the last movie comes out on Nov 20, 2015!

Have you guys seen the movie yet? What did you think of it? Please leave a comment below!

Happy Hairdoing!

Want to see the funniest video clip you’ve seen in a LOOOOONNNNGGGG time? My twins, BrooklynAndBailey, had their wisdom teeth removed last Tuesday, and made us swear that we would film everything. We gave them the footage, and this is what they approved for you to see! They are identical twins, but their reactions to the anesthesia are far from identical! You will laugh, and cry, and maybe pee your pants a little, all at the same time! Just click below to view!

Nice hairstyle and it really highlights her face and even suits her. Most of girls style hair in such a way that it shifts focus from her face to hair. In fact hair should be in such a way that it highlights facial beauty and should match face. Some of hair tips i found at http://hairstylesformediumhair.com/

Hi my name is Brooke and I’m 12. I was wondering if Kamri or Rylan went to the movie. I have an identical twin sister named Kaylee, which we thought is funny, because Brooklyn and my name are a lot a like, and Kaylee and Bailey rhyme! We also live in TX which is funny too! Well, God bless y’all and good luck in the future. Thanks if you read this.
