Same-Side Dutch Braid | Cute Hairstyles

So today’s braided hairstyle is fairly simple because it only requires that you know how to Dutch Braid, or sometimes called an “outtie” or Reverse French Braid.

You simply start at the front right side of the head {really, either side will do fine… it is just a matter of your preference}, and begin Dutch braiding.  To start, bring the right strands in normally for the Dutch Braid but bring the left strands over the top of the head to be included in the braid on the side. When you are at the base of the head, you simply braid the rest of the hair into a regular side braid and tie off with a hairband.

This hairstyle is perfect for girls of all ages, and is a simple braid style that can be included in your every-growing hairstyle repertoir. For my older girls, I prefer to loosen the braid and even “messy” it up a bit for the modern look that is so popular today.  Enjoy!

Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, one hairband, hairspray, accessory {if desired}

Time Requirement: 5-7 minutes

Skill Level: Medium

  1. Hi, I love your tutorials, they are concise and very easy to follow. I was wondering if you could do some in the sports category that is something extra added to a simple pony tail. Thanks so much!
    Please keep making videos!

  2. Hi Mindy,

    I’m getting this done by a hairdresser this Sunday (I’m awful at doing my own hair and my mom has finger pain so she can’t do it)for a family wedding. My grown out bangs are not all one length but are long to my neck. Will this work on my hair. I mean will it reach at the beginning of the braid? If not could the hairdresser use hair pins to hold the shorter pieces in. My hair is thick but is really limp. I have to decide by this Sunday the 26th of May 2013. If you could give me an answer I’d appreciate it. If she can’t do it I have to have her do a plain French braid and have my bangs cut which I’m not crazy about doing. Thanks so much. I love seeing pics of your family. <3
