Time to open the time capsule – I’m sure you all remember the original Waterfall Twist we created over 7 years ago. It was definitely a fan-favorite for most (and myself included), but it was no secret that the elegant hairstyle was difficult to master for some. That’s when I decided to put on my thinking cap and started doing some searching and practicing, and I was honestly just running short on time for some occasion, that I came across a life-change hack! This new Waterfall Twist hairstyle hack will give you the opportunity to create a darling hairstyle in under 10 minutes, AND it’ll look like you spent much longer on your hair!
Learning the Hairstyle Hack!
So what’s the hack? Simple – After you finish the twists on both sides and bring the hair together, you’ll then pull strands from the loose hair and tuck it into the twist so it gives the illusion of the waterfall braid. Pretty straightforward and trust me you’ll look like a master stylist after this tutorial. Let’s get started. Items Needed: Brush, hair elastics, hairspray & accessories {if desired}.
Time Requirement: 5-10 minutes
Skill Level: Easy
Waterfall Twist
- Straighten hair and part down the middle.
- Pick up a small section of hair in the front (about an inch deep).
- Divide that front section of hair in half, so now you have 2 pieces.
- Twist both pieces of hair upward, individually.
- Cross the 2 pieces of hair over each other, but now, cross them going downward.
- Repeat this action down the length of the hair. It will start to look like a rope twist.
- Repeat on the other side of the head.
- Secure the 2 rope twists with a small elastic.
- Take small sections of hair and pull them through the twist all the way down the twist until you hit the elastic. Do this on both sides.
- Accessorize! You can finish the look off by adding an adorable clip scrunchie, or scarf to hide the elastic.

Secret’s Out!
I told you, it doesn’t get easier than this hack! When you finished all the stranding then you’re done! You can hair wrap, you could add a little scrunchie or a little clip to hide that elastic if that’s bothering you, but essentially you’re all finished. What I love the most about this is that it ends up being identical to an actual Waterfall Twist except with this look, it’s way easier for those of us that can’t always master the waterfall.
