Pancake Braids | Bohemian Hairstyles

Many of you noticed the cute braids that we included in the photos of the No-Heat Sock Curls Hairstyle tutorial, and asked if we could do a tutorial on it…

Great news, we actually filmed those braids on the sock curls that very day! I think you will admit that these braids are so super easy to do!

Now, I know you are going to ask… but my twins started calling this style of braiding “Pancake Braids” since they were little, because the braids are flattened like pancakes. {I thought it was cute… so the name stuck!}

In order to flatten a braid, you simply make a normal three-strand braid and then tug on the elbows while holding the end of the braid loosely. Once you like the way the braid looks, you simply tie it off with a clear elastic band.

In this hairstyle, we used two pancake braids, one on either side of the top/front of the hair, and then pinned them up around the back of the head. This is what actually gives the hairstyle a beachy-Bohemian look that is so popular today.

Just imagine the compliments you will receive on this hairstyle with such gorgeous curls {using no heat, of course) and these cute braids as an combo!  I promise you that I will be the first to compliment you!

Enjoy!

Items Needed: 2 clear elastic bands, 2-4 bobby pins, hairspray {if desired}.

    1. I don’t think you could do it with hair shorter than shoulder length. But there is a link all the way at the bottom of this page that has a list of categories of hair styles. There are 56 hairstyles for short hair.

  2. Hey, I’m a 17 year old girl from The Netherlands and every week I check out your website. I totally love your posts, and most of the time I try to do it myself, mostly on my babysitting kids, because it won’t work on me.

    but this tutorial is amazing! I wear it almost every week!

    thank you for all these great posts, I will definitely keep watching your tutorials!!

  3. I wore this when I played the evil queen in our school play but I wove dark purple shimmery ribbon through the braids and then I pinned some ribbons in so the ribbons fell with the curls and looked super evil.

  4. I really like how this looks and I tried this but the sock curls looked HORRIBLE! I was very upset because I was expecting beautiful bouncy gorgeousness but I failed miserably. Is there any way to make the sock curls hold really well for extra thick hair??

    @Adele Fan: I got a pack of like 60 at walgreens but I’m sure you can get them at CVS as well!
